What a difference a week can make. On Saturday, Feb. 21, we made a journey to Exeter in what were very nasty conditions making me think my husband should have been heeding my advice of a few weeks past and waited for a better day. A follow-up trip to London on the next Saturday, Feb. 28, couldn't have been more different. Sunny conditions had motorcyclists out making us anticipate the convertible season. Spring can't be far away for we spotted a young boy in shorts. Back home from my kitchen window we noticed many snowmobilers enjoying the trails which extend east of the village. Made me wonder if we shouldn't be getting those old machines out of the shed for a run. The change of seasons hasn't got me putting my winter coat to the back of the closest yet as I anticipate there will be many more such flip- flop conditions before we see the last of this winter's snow and we all have our shorts out. Remember, March has come like a lamb. However, the promise is there. Now I ask you. villagers, how The women of the Cheerio Club met for a noon meal at the G.T. Corner Café on Feb. 18. Following a delicious rib and chicken dinner they were welcomed to the home of Edythe Beacom for business and fellowship. Dorothy Johnston began the meeting with a reading from the book A Mother's Love. The group welcomed a new member, Josephine MacGregor and guest, Angela Beacom. Roll call was answered with humorous readings and Happy Birthday was sung to Dorothy Johnston. Edythe Beacom won the gift of the month given by Reta Kelland. Check out The Citizen's WEBSITE at www.northhuron.on.ca proud/pleased did you feel when you heard the news last week about the latest inductees into the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame? The reaction at our home was, "Wow!" Missed the announcement? One of the four persons to be so honoured this year is N.E. (Peter) Hardy — one of our own, so to speak. For those of you new to the village, Peter and his wife, Dorothy, lived on the river property south of Londesborough for a number of years in the 1980s and 1990s. The Hardys originate from London, where Dorothy still has a home. Through his management positions with Labatt's he was influential in bringing the Blue PETER HARDY Jays franchise to Posthumous Toronto. He honour served as the first chief executive officer for the Jays from 1982 to 1990. Peter retired in 1990, but maintained his influence and interest in the organization as an honourary chairman of the board. Dorothy noted that Peter was devoted to the franchise until his death in 1997. Those of us who knew Peter will remember him as a quiet, unassuming man who would have been pleased by the honour but would have downplayed his contribution. He certainly is deserving of this recognition. The Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame is located in St. Marys, Ontario. The ladies completed their afternoon together playing cards. They will meet again on March 17. FROM LONDESBORO UCW prepares special service The Londesborough UCW extend an invitation to all ladies in the community to come together for. the ecumenical World Day of Prayer service on Friday afternoon, March 5.
