Elva Brown donated door prizes which were won by Brock Vodden and Joann MacDonald. Elva Brown and Shirley Stanway won the 50/50 draw. Marie Toll introduced nine members of the Blyth Public School Band and their leader, Kendra Pearson. Their group work and solos were thoroughly enjoyed. Mrs. Toll made a donation on behalf of the Blyth Swinging Seniors to the instrument project now underway at the school. The United Senior Citizens of Ontario Inc. had sent a letter urging seniors (anyone over 50) to write their MPPs regarding concern over possible cancellation or changes to the Ontario Drug Benefit programme. Sample letters were distributed and members were urged to send them to John Gerretsen, Minister Responsible for Seniors, and Carol Mitchell, MPP for this area. The Blyth Swinging Seniors meet on the fourth Wednesday of each month. Anyone 50 years of age or older is eligible to join the club. Newcomers are always welcome. Legion euchre Feb. 23 had nine tables in play. Results were as follows: high lady, Jean Plaetzer, 74; high man, Trudy Pollard, 73; low lady, Isabelle Craig, 46;-low man, Lillian Appleby, 44: lone hands, Helen Lee, four, Leonard Archambault, three; door prize, Edith Glousher; share-the-wealth, Jean Plaetzer and Mae Ritchie. Shed fire in Morris Twp. Blyth firefighters responded to a shed fire in Morris at 11:30 p.m. March 1. According to fire chief Paul Josling, the shed was fully involved by the time the firefighters arrived at the scene. "The roof was burned off. It had been going for some time before it was noticed." The cause was an overheated stove, said Josling. There is no estimate of damage at this time. A small amount of equipment was housed in the shed. The theme this year is Women of Panama. Greeting at Blyth United Church on Feb. 29 were Fred Meier and Barbara Richmond. Pat Brigham was ushering. Guest musician was Lynda McGregor. The Sunday school rhythm band took part, led by Deb Hakkers and Karen Glousher. The Sunday school choir led by 011ie Craig, sang two numbers, Arky, Arky and Do Lord. The children's hymn was Tell Me the Stories of Jesus. The dramatized gospel reading from Luke 4: 1-13 was read by different groups of Sunday school children. The children's story was in charge of Judy Gleave. The Lectionary reading from Deuteronomy 26: 1-11 was followed by the responsive Psalm 91. Lorna Fraser, Sunday school superintendent was in charge of the sermon. Attention was drawn to the announcements and to the fish bowl at the back of the church for pennies to help support the Sunday School's adopted brother Yasmany.
