WMS hears of persecution in Bhil field
The February meeting of the
Cranbrook WMS was held at the
home of Donna Knight in Brussels
on Feb. 10.
Yvonne Knight reported on the
Presbyterial annual meeting she and
Eleanor Stevenson attended. She
read a letter from Annemarie
Klassen, associate secretary of
stewardship and education for
mission. It told about the
persecution the Christians in the
Bhil field in India are facing.
Mr. and Mrs. John Buchanan from
Scotland decided in the early 1900s
to assist natives in their daily living
in India. They established a
community, which is now known. as
the Bhil Field,' They opened a
hospital, which is under the
direction of Dr. Pauline Brown.
State elections in India were
recently won by the BJP, a national
Hindu party.
_ This has emboldened Hindu
extremists in the area who advocate
a policy they call Hindutva, the
belief that India is for Hindus only
The Cranbrook scores reported for
this week are Pat Gillis with 125 and
Ernie tewington with 120.
Some Cranbrook area residents
started off the week at the Rebekah
casserole supper on Monday night.

community.

meeting closed with the Mizpah
Benediction.

hostess, served lunch.
Brussels Legion on Feb. 28 at 7:30
p.m.
Sharon Evans reported she
received $80 for the hall from
grocery tapes that were turned into
Brussels Foodland. She is still
accepting tapes from Zehrs and
Brussels Foodland. The tapes may
be left in the box at the hall dr given
to Sharon.
