Let's talk winners
Writing, rehearsing and finally presenting, are all part of
creating good speeches and primarystorytelling. Students
from East Wawanosh Public School completed this year's
round of primary storytelling for public speaking, while
some will continue on to compete in the next division.

The Women's Institute's potluck
was held on Tuesday, Feb. 3 at noon.
After a delicious meal Mary Hunter
gave a humorous reading on Noah
and the environment.
Guest speaker Wingham fire chief
Harley Gaunt, spoke on fire safety
and showed two videos. There are
many causes of kitchen fires and
there are proper ways to deal with
them. Grease fires should be
smothered. Cool burns with cold
water.
Always call the . fire department
even it is only a small fire.
Smoke detectors should always be
tested and replaced with new
There were six tables of euchre in
play on Wednesday, Feb. 4.
• Winners were: high lady, Ada
Taylor; second high lady, Mary
Taylor; most lone hands, Laura
batteries. There should be one on
every floor of the house. Candles
should never be left unattended and
ashes should be put in a metal
container.
In a minute and a half a fire can he
out of control.
If your clothing is on fire, drop
and roll to put it out.

fire evacuation. Every family should
have an escape route. There should
be a place outside where everyone
meets so you know everyone is Out
safely.

The Women's Missionary Society
held its-meeting on Monday, Feb. 2
at the home of Freda Scott. The
purpose was read, then the call to
worship was given on Love and
Flexibility.
Saviour Teach Me Day by Day
was read in unison. A prayer was
given by Freda Scott. Ivy Cloakey
read scripture from John 14.
Freda Scott read a story on how
some resist change.
The secretary's report was given
by Margaret Siertsema and the
treasurer's report by Mrs. Cloakey.
The roll call was on love.
A report was given on the annual
meeting.
Alice Nicholson led a memorial
for the late Irene Schultz. Alice
Nicholson read a poem on Snow.
Snowhills are getting high around
Ethel and many children, including
my own sons (much to my chagrin),
have taken to climbing these
"mountains".
Recently I watched a young
daredevil toboggan off the hill by the
rink and pop out onto the road-at
night. I would ask adults to remind

Random Acts of Kindness Week.
This is a great time to do something
nice for someone. Bake cookies for
a family with children, shovel a
driveway, take a cutting off a
houseplant and give it away. The
possibilities are endless.
Next Saturday, Feb. 21 is the
second annual Snowfest. The
volunteers are working hard to bring
something for everyone in
thecommunity. There will be a
hockey game for the kids against a
surprise hockey team.
You can enjoy cross sawing, nail
hammering, sleighrides with Mr.
Lorraine Secret, Hazel McKenzie,
Hilda Holmes, Marion Behrns; low,
Shirley Verstoep, Marguerite
Beirnes.
The next euchre will be held
on Monday, Feb.. 16 at
8 p.m.
Larry Ward, tug o' war with CPP and
Inuit games as well as a fur and trap
display by MVCA.
This year we will be serving up
hot cider and hotdogs. The Winter
Events Committee is hoping to
provide good family fun for little or
no little or no cost. Dress
appropriately and helmets, sticks,
skates and good sportsmanship are
required for the hockey game.

Speeches came to an end for another year as students from East Wawanosh Public School
announced their winners. Some will continue to represent their school during the next level of
