Nominate that special person for the 19th Annual Citizen Citizenship Awards. Each year a committee chooses an outstanding citizen from each of the Blyth and area and Brussels and area communities to receive an award for contribution to the community. If you know someone you think should be honoured, please fill in the ballot and send it in. You may attach a longer explanation of why you think your nominee should win, if you like. Mary Humphries has welcomed a new great-grandchild to the family tree. Jarrett Humphries was born on Jan. 9 to Chris and Sarah Humphries of London. This is the fourth grandchild for Bob and Nora Humphries of London and fourth great-grandchild for Mary. Spending a few days in hospital was Mildred Gillis. She is home now and feeling better. Eleanor Stevenson greeted in Cranbrook Presbyterian Church on Sunday. Rev. Theresa McDonald Lee spoke about change and encouraged everyone to do more with their lives. The annual meeting is Sunday, Feb. 15 with a potluck supper at 6:30 p.m. Eleanor Stevenson and Yvonne Knight attended the Huron-Perth Presbyterial WMS annual meeting in St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Stratford on Monday, Feb. 8. Rev. Theresa McDonald Lee was guest speaker in the afternoon and Marg McGilvray- in the morning. The Cranbrook and area dart players sent along the following scores from last week: Marie Stute with 122 and Murray Houston with 120. Boyd and Gertie Driscoll are now residing at the Seaforth Manor and we wish them well in their new surroundings. Returning from a three-week trip to Orlando, Florida are Lavern and Marion Godkin. They enjoyed a wonderful visit with daughter Nancy and husband Rick Schmeltzer and son Jacob. They celebrated Jacob's second birthday and spent a day at the Magic Kingdom at Disneyland. They had great 80° weather and enjoyed many family outings and activities. Jim and Ruth Axtmann spent a few weeks vacationing in the Florida and Orlando area and dropped in on the Schmeltzer and Godkins while they were there. Celebrating and hosting a birthday party were Brian Black and wife Joan. Birthday boy Brian welcomed family, friends and some old high school and university friends to their home on Saturday evening. They enjoyed dinner together and a night of playing games such as Cranium. They enjoyed birthday cake to finish off a great evening. A full busload of folks travelled to the Toronto farm show on Tuesday. The bus was arranged by McGavin Farm Equipment of Walton. Neil and Marie McGavin have. returned home from a two-week holiday in Collingwood. They stayed at a condo and welcomed their grandchildren at various times for fun in the snow. They had company every night but one, being joined by either family, friends or neighbours. Brian's children, Brandon and Abby enjoyed skiing and tubing. Duff's UCW meets The UCW ladies met on Wednesday evening in the basement of Duff's United church. The meeting was conducted by Audrey Hackwell, Judy Emmrich and Val Pethick. The topic for the evening was on organ donations and their importance. There were also Heart and Stroke pamphlets available. During the business portion the kitchen renovations were also Early Years play and learn The Ontario Early Years Play and Learn Program held at Duff's United Church, Walton had six adults with nine children taking part. Leader Valerie Watson says the children enjoyed the interactive games with the other children and parents. They meet Wednesday mornings at 10 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. Interested parties need to contact Rev. Joan Tuchlinsky. The Walton unified hoard will meet at 8 p.m. Feb. 17. There were 16 young people gathered at the front. Rev. Joan asked them if there were special Cathy's children Brent, Alex and Shayna also enjoyed skiing and tubing and Alex tried snowboarding. Heather's children Hayden, Jessica and Jared also enjoyed being taught by Grandpa Neil, the art of skiing. Before allowing the children to go tubing, braveheart Neil tried it first and thought it would be great for all. Everyone returned home all in one piece. Heading off to Collingwood Friday for a weekend of skiing, tubing, snowboarding and swimming was a group of young folks. Walton/Winthrop area people included Scott McDonald, Darryl Houston, Chris and Devin Blake, Brian Dolmage, Josh Horst, Sarah McDonald and Brett Dietz. Home visiting Howard and Audrey Hackwell on the weekend were Dean and Kelly Hackwell. They had a small celebration in honour of Dean and Kelly's second wedding anniversary. The happy couple had celebrated on Monday, Feb. 2 by going out to dinner but extended the celebration on the weekend with Howard and Audrey. places that were close to God. Joan's reflection was titled For Everything There is a Season. She reflected on how storms provide people with time for reading, cooking, talking and interacting with family. She read Ecclesiastes 3. Rev. Joan asked everyone to take time this week to assess their lives. The offering was collected by Barry Hoegy and Murray Dennis. The Walton Little School Shining Stars are busy learning about family and friends. They have been creating a family quilt on the wall with pictures. The Acorn class or kindergarten- age group is learning about houses, geometric shapes and their families. They made groundhog puppets for Groundhog Day and are writing Valentines for their friends. The toboggan hill on the playground has really—been popular. FROM WALTON The children voted that the winter is great — teachers thought otherwise. The staff from Walton Little School hosted their first workshop for Literacy Educators on Feb. 3 in honour of Family Literacy Day Jan. 27. More than 30 ECE's and Early Years Teachers enjoyed learning about storytelling tips for children of different ages and participated in make-and-take stations where they made resources to accompany the story The Mitten by Jan Brett.
