Dynamites play in Barrie
A broomball tournament was held
near Barrie, Feb. 6, 7 and 8. Blyth
Junior Broomball send 138 players,
which meant four busses and many
cars and van loads of players, parents
and coaches who drove up to see
them play in Stroud and Lefroy
arenas.
The Blyth Dynamites PeeWees
had 17 players ready to play the best
broomball they could. The first game
was held at noon on Friday, in
Lefroy against Mildmay Redwings.
A goal was scored against Blyth in
the first period. The Dynamites were
unable to score a goal against
Mildmay for a disappointing loss of
t-0.
At 2:40 p.m. they played
Palmerston. In the first period Brent
Drost got the ball away from
Palmerston defense to score the first
goal. Palmerston cam back to score
two goals on the Dynamites.
A powerful line gave Blyth the
break it needed. Nadine Otten scored
a goal to tie up the game, on an assist
from Drost and Derek Logtenberg.
Drpst picked up the ball from a
Palmerston player at centre ice to
score. Their final goal from this line
was from Logtenberg who
maneuvered the ball down the ice.
Palmerston didn't give up and scored
another goal.
The final score was 4-3 for Blyth
Dynamites. Up early on Saturday
morning to play a 7:40 a.m. game.
Blyth faced the Eastern Storms. the
Storms are a select team and proved
to be very difficult opponents.
Blyth played well and held off the
Storms with a loss of only 1-0.
Courtney Bos played an outstanding
game as goalie, stopping many shots
on net.
On Saturday afternoon, Blyth once
again played against Palmerston.
Both teams played well and there
was no score, so the game went into
overtime. During the third shift of
overtime, Larissa Jenkins made a
neat pass to Drost who scored the
winning goal.
The last game of the day was
supposed to start at 8:20 p.m. against
Seaforth, on Saturday night. It was
delayed over one hour, due to all the
overtime played during the day.
Seaforth came on strong and
scored two goals right away. During
the second period Otten passed to
Logtenberg who gave a quick pass to
Drost to tie up the game. With less
then two minutes left in the game,
Seaforth was in front of Blyth's net
and scored. It was a disappointing
loss for Blyth.
This was the semi-final for the
consolation title round.
Chantal Warwick was chosen as
best sportsperson of the tournament.
Brussels PeeWees opened their
second round playoff series against
Zurich Jan. 31 with a win.
At the end of the first period, the
teams were tied at one. Bdn Gowing
got Brussels on the board unassisted.
There was lots of action for the
home team in the second. Westin
McLeod scored assisted by Taylor
Prior and Gowing. A goal by Evan
Ducharme was assisted by Prior.
Gowing got his second with help
from Ducharme and Thomas
Johnston. Before the end of the
second Prior notched one of his own
with the assist going to Brendan
Stretton.
This made it 5-3 going into 'the
third. Cody Subject scored with an
assist by Stretton, then Gowing got
his hattrick. Subject and McLeod
assisted.
For game two, Brussels travelled
to Zurich Sunday, Feb. 1 and came
home with a win in overtime. It was
a hard-fought battle between two
great teams.
Scoring for Brussels were McLeod
with two; Subject, one goal, two
Sunday, Feb. 8 the Blyth Tyke
Bulldogs travelled to Ayton for a
one-day tournament.
Their first opponent was
Hanover, which the Bulldogs
handled well to have a 12-0 win.
Scoring for Blyth were Michael
VanWyk, seven goals, one assist;
Dalton Richmond, one goal; Dallas
Coultes, one goal, one assist; Curtis
Raynard, one goal, one assist;
Matthew VanWyk, one goal; Dylan
Bromley, one goal; Ryan Nesbitt,
three assists; Wyatt Carey, three
assists; Brendan Hallahan, one
assist; Autumn Wightman, one
assist.
Their second challenge was
against the host team Norman'by.
The Bulldogs once again rose to the
assists; Gowing, two goals;
Ducharme, one assist.
The goal by Gowing tied it and
sent it into overtime. Zurich had a
few chances but between the pipes
Ryan Smith and Brianne Wheeler
stonewalled their shots.
With end-to-end action both teams
put up a tremendous fight to get the
win, then Prior picked up the puck,
and rushing in, hit the top corner
with the winner.
Brussels fell asleep for the first
part of game three however.
Zurich was on the board first.
At the end of two Zurich had the
lead by one goal.
Scoring for Brussels were Prior,
unassisted and Stretton assisted by
Robert Cronin and James Dillon.
In the third Brussels was
determined to eliminate Zurich.
Randy Zwep tied it assisted by
Gowing. Prior scored with an assist
from Gowing, then McLeod added
more insurance. The assist was
credited to Zwep. To finish Zurich
off Stretton bulged the twine yet
again with an assist from Prior.

Dalton Carey and Corey
Ducharme were steady between the
pipes giving, their teammates
excellent goaltending.
Ashley Higgins started the
scoring, followed by Matthew
VanWyk, Nesbitt and Michael
VanWyk. Assists went to Connor
Rodgers and Raynard.
After the two victories the
Bulldogs faced the greatest
challenge of the day, the
championship game. They came up
against an old rival, Seaforth.
The Bulldogs played hard to the
final buzzer but came up short,
defeated 4-1. The lone goal was by
Michael VanWyk off a pass from
Ryan Plunkett on defense.
Tykes tie
It was a tie and a win for the _
Brussels Tykes in this weekend's
hockey action.
Feb. 7 the team travelled to
Bayfield to play BCH I. Brody
TenPas and Brock McLean
combined for the visitors' goals,
with TenPas claiming a hattrick.
Assists went to matt McNichol,
Bryce Armstrong, Tanner Cardiff
and Josh Bridge.
Between the pipes for the visitors
was Sarah Dillon.
On Feb. 8, the Tykes travelled
again to Bayfield, this time to play
Zurich.
TenPas was strong again
offensively with another hattrick,
plus one in this 5-4 effort. Anthony
Vader skated in for the fifth Brussels
goal.
McNichol was solid between the
pipes.
The next home game for the squad
is Satruday against Seaforth at 10
a.m., then Sunday they play Blyth at
home. Game time is 1 p.m.
Tykes in tourney
Novices barking up right tree
The Novice Bulldogs sure seem to Drew Wood scored four goals,
