Many Blyth parents and kids

On Jan. 17 the Blyth Mites hosted
Zurich.
The little Bulldogs came up short
in the goal department, but if posts
counted Drew Bromley would have
had two goals.
The Mites played hard and had
fun.
Jan. 31 the Mites hosted the
Brussels team. Although there is a
Fred, Jonathon (player) and Quinton
Hakkers were among them and
while in Barrie they visited with
Deb's cousins Terry, Julie and
Joshua Daer.
Greeting at Blyth United Church
on Feb. 8 were Fred Meier and
Barbara Richmond. Guest musician
was Lynda McGregor.
The choir anthem was this Love is
Mine. The children's hymn was
Para, Para, Pitter Pat.
The dramatized gospel reading
was from Luke 5: 1-11.
After Rev. Eugen Bannerman's
story for the children, the children
and teachers went downstairs to
Sunday school. Rev. Bannerman
read the lectionary reading from
bit of a size and age difference the
Bulldogs did their best. Brussels
came up with more goals against the

Blyth had two goals scored by
Hunter Dale, assisted by Shelby
Higgins and Brandon Marshall.

Occasionally, life forces decisions
on us.
When the plant where Fred
Hakkers was working shut down, he
had some choices to make.
"Basically, 1 found myself looking
for something to do."
He found it in his love of cooking
and with the help of the self-
employment benefits program
through the Huron Business
Development Corporation Tasty
Treats To Go was born.
Hakkers said catering is really not
that new to him as he has helped
with the Blyth United Church group
for 10 years and is a volunteer food
co-ordinator, along with his wife,
Deb, for the annual Thresher
Reunion.
Now with his own business
variety has become his trademark.
From small to large functions every
detail is given the home-made touch,
from buns and desserts to pickles.
"Between Deb and me we can pretty
much put together a home-made
meal."
But Tasty Treats also does
specialty baking, including cakes
and cookies. A unique idea has been
their any-occasion cookie gram. The
treats come in two sizes and are
decorated with a special message for
the recipient. They sell for $5 or $10.
Isaiah 6: 1-8 which was followed by
the responsive Psalm 138.
Rev. Bannerman's message to the
adults was Walking Like the Amish,
Some Health Tips from Your
Minister. Broccoli, a nutritional
powerhouse, helps halt tumour
growth, is a source of vitamin C and
boosts the immune system. Brown
rice is good for weight loss and is
high in fibre. Drink at least six
glasses of water a day. Berries — you
name it, they have it. Garlic is anti-
fungal, anti-viral, anti-bacterial and
lowers blood pressure. Some foods
not to eat are fruit drinks, loaded
with sugars, sugary breakfast foods,
ice cream, French fries and potato
chips.

Just what you will be
looking for this winter
"Dch came up with the idea. She
just thought it would be something
different."
Hakkers is currently running his
business through the United Church
kitchen.
For lighter fare Hakkers offers
chili or beef stew with homemade
bread and garden salad, soup and
sandwich or buns with meat and
extras. The dinner menu includes the
meat choices of chicken breasts
with sauce, lasagna, roast turkey,
roast beef or cured ham.
But variations are generally not a
problem. Hakkers begins the process
by meeting with clients. "We'll start
with the basics and take it from
there. Some things will take more
time, some will take more money."
Hakkers said baking orders can be
done by calling a day or two before.
Bigger events, however, obviously
require a little more notice.
