PAGE 2. THE CITIZEN, THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 12, 2004.
I hope that you had a pleasant
week enjoying the sparkling snow
and good weather.
The highlight for this house was
Saturday afternoon at the Blyth Inn.
Words like "very nice", "it's about
time", "good job" were in the air.
Keith Roulston was finally being
recognized by the hometown crowd
for his many, many contributions to
our community. The Rubber Boot
parlour was filled to the brim with
his many friends, and that in itself
made for an interesting crowd.
Ralph Watson, the idea man,
welcomed everyone to this party for
The Citizen, as it is now 19 years in
our midst. Confession being good
for the soul let Ralph admit to Keith
and some of the cfowd that this was
really not about the pages of the
paper but really our time to honour
our choice Citizen — Keith.
So setting the tone for this well-
deserved honour in a quiet and low-
key manner he mentioned the
especial place we have in our hearts
for Keith as the guy who eternally
reminds us of our place in the world
and that we need to cherish it. The
importance of a weekly paper to
rural communities and the grasp that
Keith has on the pulse of our area
were mentioned as very important
contributions to our community.
Good wishes and congratulations
were brought from the council heads
of North Huron, Morris-Turnberry
and Huron East via Doug Layton,
Dorothy Kelly and Joe Seili. The
present and past board and staff of
The Citizen was well represented as
well as folks from the Blyth Theatre,
area businesses and friends and
family.
"This is your Life" mode was used
by Jim Swann as he herded us down
memory lane via the high school in
Lucknow; the years at Ryerson and
bringing Jill to Huron County —
probably one of the smarter things
he's done. In fine form and in good
humour Jim reminded us of the saga
of the hall roof. The Brussels Post
and The Blyth Standard were part of
the story as well as other tidbits
including children and an old
farmhouse.
Eric Coates picked up on Keith's
role in every aspect of theatre here.
Hank TenPas reminded everyone of
the importance of Jill in his life and
presented her with flowers.
Keith was presented with a plaque
in The Citizen manner and Steve
Sparling spoke of living in the
community with Keith and his
important role of dreaming up things
to get others moving. To show how
much the Sparling family
appreciates the cloud searching and
daydreaming they brought a gift to
Keith and Jill to be used in the next
year — an afternoon in a hot air
balloon. What a fitting way to say
thank you for the many ways you
make our community a much, much
better place.
To get everyone alerted, invited.
organized, present and enjoying
themselves to make this party for
Keith and Jill such a good one was
Sheila Richards — hostess with the
mostest.
Deb and Joe Seili owners of
Huron Feeding Systems spent last
week at the farm show in Toronto
and came home smiling broadly.
They were recognized by their peers
when they won two of the prizes that
demonstrate excellence in the farm
business world. Good for you!
Don't forget to order the flowers
for your sweetie for Saturday.
Bye now, Betty G.W.

It's great to report that Brussels
Legion Comrade Bill Bremner is

unfortunately Comrade Gord
Workman is still in hospital.
The Thursday night darts had 16

Having talent, or the best luck, were
Paul and Sandra Josling.
Placing second were Ken Bird and
Lynda Shaw. The high shots of the
night were Paul Gross with 134 and
Sandra Josling with 140. The high
start was by Julie Harrison with 82
and the high finish was by Ken Bird
with 104.
The Friday night supper of sausage
and sauerkraut was enjoyed by a
great crowd. This week will be
chicken wings, French fries and
salad.
Following the meal on Friday
evening a special presentation was
