Brussels Midgets
lose playoff series
After three games this past week,
the Brussels Midgets lost the first
round of playoffs against Drayton.
On Jan. 20, the team kept it close,
but failed to seal the victory against
the home team.
Scoring for the visitors in this 4-2
effort were Brent Wheeler,
unassisted and Steve Ropp, with an
assist by Greg Bowers.
Jan. 23, Drayton wasn't helped by
home-ice advantage, letting their
visitors steal a 7-6 win in overtime.
This nail-biter got off to a scary
start with ,Drayton scoring four
before Brussels got on the board in
the first. Matt McClinchey and Pat
Rushton teamed to set up Brandon
Blake, who skated in for the goal.
With just five minutes in the period,
McClinchey brought his team within
two. Robbie Semple and Blake
earned the assists.
Drayton increased the lead early in
the second, but McClinchey scored
unassisted to cancel it soon after.
Unfortunately, the hosts managed
yet another before the buzzer to take

their mettle, holding their opponents
down, while scoring three to tie it.
McClinchey, Tate Stephenson and
Blake bulged the twine. Assists went
to Blake, Wheeler and McClinchey.
The game went into overtime and
not content with a hattrick,
McClinchey scored the game
winner. Darcy Cook earned the
assist.
Brussels appeared to have run out
of steam in game three, however, as
they gave up a 10-2 victory on home
ice, Jan. 24.
The game began much the same as
the one before with Drayton taking a
4-2 lead into the second period.
First-period goals for Brussels had
been scored by McClinchey and
Adam McClure. Assisting were
Rushton and Greg Bowers.
That was it for the hosts
unfortunately as Drayton kept the
pressure on through the remainder of
the game, and took the series three
games to one.

Tykes
continue
winning
ways
The Brussels Tykes continued
their winning ways on the weekend
with an 8-4 win at home against
BCH 2 on Saturday, then a 5-2
victory away in Zurich on Sunday.
Jan. 24, it was Brock McLean and
Brody TenPas who led the way to
victory scoring all of the team's
goals.
McLean got it started in the first,
with an assist from TenPas and
Sarah Dillon.
BCH responded with one of their
own, but Hayden TenPas handed it
to McLean who scored two minutes
later. B. TenPas finished the scoring
in the first, with a goal set up by
Mitchell Kellington and Reece
McArter.
The second period kept things
tight with each team scoring three.
TenPas got two and McLean a
single. Assists went to H. TenPas,
Wyatt Ducharme and Kellington.
In the third period, BCH failed to
add to their tally, while McLean
scored one -unassisted and another
with help from Dillon to finish the
game.
Goalie for the game was Bryce
Armstrong.
The next day, B. TenPas led the
scoring onslaught with a hattrick,
plus one. Brock McLean, however,
got the visitors started with a first
period, unassisted goal.
Zurich tied it just before the
buzzer, then took the lead in the
second.
With just over five minutes left in
the period, TenPas skated in alone
to tie it, then a minute later lit the
light yet again. McLean earned the
assist.
With a one-point lead to begin the
final period, Brussels held back
their hosts, while TenPas scored two
more. Josh Bridge and Dillon set up
the play on the first hattrick goal.
While his brother was keeping the
home-team goalie busy, Hayden
TenPas gave a solid effort in the
Brussels net.
Coaches applauded the great play
and impressive defence.

Morris-Turnberry council agreed
at its Ian. 20 meeting to discuss the
application for financial support to
put more Crime Stoppers signs
around the municipality during their
meeting on Jan. 20.
Steve Beasley of the OPP, told
council that Crime Stoppers is in its
final stages for a Trillium grant
application that would allow them to
put 70 - 80 signs up in the county.
He said five to seven signs would be
put up throughout Morris-Turnberry
costing anywhere from $500 to $600
for the signs, plus the equipment and
labour to put them up.
"The bulk of the signs will be on
In the Brussels net, Logan

county roads. We'll try to hit high
traffic areas," he said.
The signs will be black, red and
white with the Crime Stoppers logo
and its phone number. Sizes range
from two feet by three feet, two feet
by five feet or four feet by eight feet.
He said the more signs that are put
up, the better because the chances
are greater of more people seeing a
sign and calling in a tip.
Beasley. said Crime Stoppers has
cleared 90 cases in the last year and
solved 28-29 crimes. Calls to Crime
Stoppers have gone up 18 per cent
over the last year.
"The more calls, the more crimes
get solved. We are trying to make
the community and neighbourhoods
a better place to live," said Beasley
