The Director of Public Works is responsible for management of the Public Works and Water Departments. Responsibilities include drafting capital and operating budgets, setting priorities for work, staff supervision, establishing policies and advising Council and Committees on related matters. Responsibilities also include directing the installation, maintenance, operation and delivery of services for roads, sidewalks, sanitary and storm sewers, wastewater treatments, waste collection and disposal, landfill operations, water supply and distribution and cemetery maintenance. Qualifications: • Experience with municipal water and sewer systems is preferred. • Experience with heavy equipment essential. • Five years related work experience, preferably in a municipal environment. • Valid Ontario Class D Drivers Licence. • Successful completion of Ontario Good Roads Certificate Program preferred. • In-depth knowledge of construction practices and construction estimating. The ideal candidate will have the ability to deal effectively, courteously, and tactfully with North Huron Council and staff, contractors and the general public. Salary including benefit package will be in accordance with the 2003 salary range ($46,259 to $57,824) and will commensurate with qualifications and experience. The Chief Building Official shall administer and enforce the provisions of .the Building Code Act, the Ontario Building Code (OBC), and applicable North Huron by-laws. The CBO will act as the by-law enforcement officer, and be responsible for administering zoning, property standards, nutrient management, sign and certain other municipal by-laws. The CBO performs the above responsibilities in accordance with budgets, objectives, policies and programs approved by Council and all applicable by- laws and Ontario regulations. Qualifications: • Certified Building Code Official preferred • 2 years related work experience, preferably in a municipal environment • Working knowledge of the OBC and other applicable laws • Ability to read and interpret drawings and plans • Valid Ontario Drivers Licence • Good computer and record management skills The ideal candidate will have the ability to deal effectively, courteously, and tactfully with North Huron Council and staff, contractors and the general public.
