There are so many people out there who do
so much to improve their community.
Now you have a chance to say thanks.

Annual Citizen Citizenship Awards.
Each year a committee chooses an outstanding citizen from each of
the Blyth and area and Brussels and area communities to receive an
award for contribution to the community. If you know someone you
think should be honoured, please fill in the ballot and send it in. You
may attach a longer explanation of why you think your nominee
should win, if you like. If you have nominated someone before and
he or she didn't win, please feel free to try again.

Campbell family greets at Duff's
On the second Sunday after
Epiphany, the members and friends
of Duff's United Church were
greeted by Jim and Marcia
Campbell with children Meagan and
Matthew.
Service time this week is at 11
a.m. The potluck lunch and annual
meeting will follow the service.
The annual reports are available,
downstairs in the Sunday school
room. They can be picked up and
reviewed prior to Sunday's
meeting.
Grocery tapes from Brussels,
Blyth and Seaforth stores as well as
from Zehrs, are to be turned in as
soon as possible. If they could be

McDonald on receiving the Brussels
Agriculture Society's OAAS service
award in recognition of her long
service and years of dedication to
the Brussels Agriculture Society and
Brussels Fall Fair. She was
presented with the award at the
annual meeting held Friday evening.

Wow, where has the time gone?
All of the students and staff at
Brussels Public School are working
very hard and trying to keep warm in
all of this cold weather. Staff has
been very careful when sending
students outside for recess as they do
not want anyone to be exposed to
frostbite.
Students are busy getting ready for
the basketball tournament coming up
the end of February and also the
Knights of Columbus free-throw
competition is Jan. 31.
The ski trip planned for Jan. 27 is
being organized by Ms Ewener. The
school recently held a jersey day.
There were many different types of
jerseys, such as old and new hockey
jerseys.
The next spirit day will be Beach
Attire day.
The Grade 8 class is getting
prepared to go to high school. Parent
night is at F.E. Madill on Feb. 5 and
Glen Buck from the high school
guidance department is coming in to
speak to students about the courses.
Congratulations was to Chelsey
McLellan for being nominated for
good citizenship in our local
community.
Mrs. Hall and all of her
kindergarteners are keeping very
busy. They are writing many
different things in their journals.
In Mrs. Douma's class, they are
making snowmen, and doing many
different snow experiments. They
are having lots of fun using the
winter weather.
The Grade is are learning how to
tell time. The Gradeā¢ 2s are learning
to add two-digit numbers.
Both grades are busy with their
literacy reading. They also
welcomed a new classmate to their
separated into the different stores
and be put in envelopes as flat as
they can be, it would be appreciated.
Don't forget to save the empty
printer cartridges and put them in the
box in the kitchen.
Seventeen children gathered at the
front of the church. Rev. Joan
Tuchlinsky produced paper and
crayons. She asked the children their
favourite colours. She coloured each
colour in turn, but over top of each
other. The result was a blend of
colour, but not the uniqueness of
each colour. People are like colours,
she said, all have their own
uniqueness and special gifts to share
and are different from one another.
Also receiving the service award
was Fran Bremner.
Flying home for the weekend from
Forrestburg, Alberta was Ray
McClure. He was home to attend
the wedding of brother Clyde.
He caught up with all the family
members as well as enjoyed a dinner
in Stratford on Sunday with brothers
and sisters-in-law before heading
back on Monday.
It was a whirlwind busy weekend
for him.
The wedding of Clyde McClure
and Cathy Lazette at Duff's United
Church last Saturday, was attended
by family and a few friends.
Dinner was held at the Seaforth
Legion.
The open reception was a full
house. Groom Clyde, best man Fred
room.
Mr. Stewart and Mrs. Lee have
their Grade 2/3s busy with science
and learning about stability. They
have many new challenges coming
up. They are starting storytelling.
Many ideas are being discussed.
Mr. Stewart has his classes doing
new math problems. They are also
busy with their language programs.
Miss Laurie has her Grade 5/6s
busy studying their spelling words
so they can have the ice-cream party.
In math, they are decorating their
rooms. They are making their dream
rooms. In gym they are doing
basketball. They are also working on
literacy circles.
They have been doing many
science experiments and learning
about sarcophagi in social science.
They are also learning how to do
some old-fashion dancing.
Mrs. Baan and her Grade 6/7s are
busy doing a unit on poetry.
Speeches are also being prepared. In
math they are reviewing
measurement and working on
fractions and building models of
houses. Interesting things are
happening in the Grade 6/7s study
room.
Mr. Weber and his Grade 7/8s are
busy with basketball in gym and
practising for sport teams. In
language they are working on
speeches, and learning about fairy
tales, making backgrounds and
performing the fairy tales.
They are beginning to work on
literacy circles.

The adult choir sang the anthem
Count Your Blessings.
Marie McGavin delivered the
scripture reading from Isaiah 62.
Rev. Joan's reflection was
entitled, Living Lives of Gratitude.
It began with help from readers
David Pethick who displayed a
wicker basket, Cassandra Banks
who displayed a perfume bottle,
Laura Black, displayed a loaf of
bread and Marie McGavin displayed
an empty pitcher.
These were all signs of how God
used His abundant love to provide
for others in the scriptures. God's
and usher -Ed were three finely-
dressed McClure men and bride
Cathy and sister Shirley Hully were
beautiful. Congratulations to Clyde
and Cathy.
Helen Brenie and Rod Fritz
travelled to London on the weekend
to watch a swimming and diving
tournament. Helen's eight-year-old
granddaughter Cassandra from
Montreal was participating.- The
event was held at the London
Aquatic Centre. The young
swimmer earned a first-place finish
in the 200-metre breast stroke and a
third-place finish in the backstroke
in her heats.
Helen had a great visit with
daughter Carol and Cassandra too.
McGavins celebrated a belated
Christmas gathering for the
abundant love is His gift to all the
world, she said.
God also provides an abundant of
love at the most unexpected times
and ways. How people respond to
this love is by being thankful every
day for the many blessings they
have.

Birthday congratulations to
Catharine Baan who celebrated her
90th birthday on Jan. 18. A lunch,
attended by Martin and Catharine's
children, was held at son Dave and
Dianne Baan's home. Also attending
were John and Mary Baan and Jerry
and Doreen Baan. Various other
family members dropped in on
Catharine to wish her many happy
returns. She received phone calls
from relatives in Holland which she
enjoyed immensely.
