Easy lifting
A new hot tub was brought in Monday for two new
upcoming suites at the Blyth Inn. The hot tub was lifted to
the second floor using a crane lift. Workers then had to rip
down a wall and carry it onto the third floor where the suites

The Blyth Inn i
We are sorry to hear that Blyth has
lost another life-long resident this
week. Ken Hamm died Saturday,
Jan. 17.
Our sympathy is extended to his
family, George, Mary and family
and Murray, Donna and family.
Alvin Snell is a patient in Stratford
hospital. Sharon Bromley is home
and recovering from knee surgery.
Carol Irwin is in Owen Sound
recovering from hip surgery.
On a much happier note, Roberta
Howatt, a former resident of Blyth
and area is celebrating 100 years
young on Jan. 30.
Roberta is a resident of
Greenwood Nursing Home,
Stratford.
Happy Birthday Roberta.
Legion euchre results for Monday,
Jan. 12 are as follows: high lady,
Kay Konarski, 87; high man, Ron
Ritchie, 77; low lady, Mary East, 50;
low man, Wilmer Glousher, 44;
ladies' lone hand, Marie Glousher,
three; men's lone hand, Hugh Cook,
four; door prize, Mae Ritchie; share-
the-wealth, Isabelle Craig and
Shirley Wood. There were eight
tables in play.
The next euchre is Jan. 26 in the
Legion Hall at 7:30 p.m.
The Legion and Auxiliary are
sponsoring a breakfast on Jan. 25
from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Proceeds
go to the emergency services
training centre. .
Greeting at Blyth United Church
on Jan. 18 were Joann MacDonald,
Judy Gleave, Chelsea and Amelia
Carter Brown. Ushering was Cliff
Snell. Guest musician was Lynda
McGregor.
The choir anthem was Jesus Lord
of All. The gospel reading was from
John 2: 1-11. The children's hymn
was He Came Singing Love.
Rev. Eugen Bannerman told the
children a story of how dogs and cats
seem to know when their owners are
returning home.
Rev. Bannerman read the
lectionary reading from Isaiah 62: 1-
5 which was followed by the
responsive Psalm 36. The hymn,
Eternal, Unchanging We Sing was
sung.
Rev. Bannerman's message to the
adults was. Beginnings of
Methodism.
In 1860 regular meetings were
held by Peter Campbell as part of the
Morris Mission of Goderich District
of London Conference.
In 1862 the name changed from
Morris Mission to Blyth Mis-
sion.
In 1868 Blyth became part of the
Wingham circuit which consisted of
Blyth, Hoover (Westfield), Bethel,
Providence (Sunshine) and
Ebeneezer (united with Jackson in
1890 and closed in 1918).
In 1870 the first Methodist framed
church was built on Queen Street.
In 1877 Blyth incorporated as a
village of 850 people.
In 1889 the cornerstone was laid
for the new church and on Nov. 7 it
was dedicated.
A dinner was held for 600 people
and there were five speakers at the
dinner.

A Central Huron man was held in
custody over an attempted robbery
in Blyth.
On Jan. 16, OPP were notified at
9:30 p.m. of the crime. Investigating
officers were told that a male had
approached the attendant at Radford
Fuels and demanded money. The
attendant refused.
The culprit was recognized by the
attendant, who supplied police with
a name.
The 20-year-old was found a short
time later, approximately 2 kms
away, on Blyth Road.
He was on probation and in
violation of his curfew.
The man was held in custody
while police continued their
investigation.
