W. Moore named county forestry officer

Blyth forestry consultant Warren
Moore has been named forestry
officer for the County of Huron.
Moore, was officially named to
the position at the Jan. 8 meeting of
The council of North Huron, at its
Jan. 5 meeting passed a motion
declaring that the 2004 Community
Reinvestment Fund allocation in the
amount of $939,000 will be used to
benefit the taxpayers.

be hosting the Profitable Pasture
2004 Conference March 1 in
Elmwood and March 3 in Cobden.
This conference will highlight
practical production and effective
management of pastures to ensure
the profitability of livestock
operations.
The feature speaker is Dr. Ben
Bartlett of the University of
Michigan. The title of his talk Water
Systems and Grazing Systems —
Making them Practical, is a
reflection of his approach to grazing
and his background.
He is a professor, a veterinarian
and a farmer who uses research to
understand the practical aspects of
Huron County council but has been
advising the county "on intent to
cut" permits since Dec. 8.
The position of forestry officer has
been vacant for several months and
at the Nov. 26 meeting of council
Huron County engineer Don Pletch
was asked to hire a consultant to
maximum of $1,500.

Clerk-administrator John Stewart
said that the transfer of operations
from the Ontario Clean Water
Agency to US Filter Canada for the
three municipal water systems had
taken place that day at 1 p.m. Two
employees previously operating the
system for OCWA, Bruce Bromley
pasture management.
Birgit Martin, a Manitoulin Island
farmer and agricultural supply
business operator, did her Masters
on her topic Matching Grass Growth
to Animal Needs. John Steele, a
Norwood sheep producer pasturing
about 1000 ewes will use his
experience to discuss Maximizing
Profits with Pasture Management.
A local panel will be a highlight
for each day.
Producers last year were very
specific that they wanted to learn
about management that they could
put into practice.
Pre-registration is required.

a copy of the conference
