DECEMBER 14; I Silver Lake WI The Christmas meeting of the Silver Lake Institute was held at the home of the convener and hostess Mrs. E. Lizmore, on Thursday. December4th. The first vice' president Mrs. Ray Stanley was in the chair. The meeting, which was attended by ten members and two guests. was opened by singing of the Ode and repeating the Mary Stewart Col- lect. The scripture was read by the hostess. The roll call was answered by presentation of a favourite heirloom. This was the Education and Cultural Affairs meeting. The secretary-treasurer.- Mrs. Ellisoti Hodgins, read the financial statement and . dealt with other correspondence. It 'was rioted that "the bazaar held. November 7, was quite successful. The quilt was won by Mrs. Pat Hayes, Another Institute quilt, which has already been started by Mrs. Clarence Hedley, is planned for this winter. Mrs. Ron Thacker and Mrs. E. Lizmore are to be the 4-H leaders for the spring club "Featuring Fruit". Reports were then heard from the standing committees.. An Armistite poem written for,the Legion for November 11, 197 by Jamie Liimore is to be entered into the Tweedsmuir Book. Mrs. Ron Thacker and Mrs. Margaret Ban- nerman will be preparing the Sunshine Christmas Boxes. Two reports were given; one on the tally at Whitechurch by Mri. Clarence Hedley. and the' other on the area convention at Owen Sound by Mrs. Margaret Bannerman. MacKENZIE FUNERAL HOME May the spirit of Christmas peace be with you now and forever. December 10 Whitechurch Women's Institute had their banquet at St. Andrew's Church, Wingham with hostesses Mrs._ George Fisher and Mrs. Russel Gaunt. The tables were Christmas trimmed with lighted candles. The dinner was turkey with all its trimmings. The meeting opened with • the president Miss Merle Wilson presiding, welcoming all and singing the Ode and repeating the CCillect. It was decided to give $10 to the Save the Sight Fund_ Carols sung were 0 Come All Ye FaitaiL As With Gladness and Hark the Herald Angels. Mrs. Victor Emerson gave two readings, Keeping Christmas and Santa's,. Mrs- Russel McGuire sang a solo, There's A Star accompanied by Mrs. Garnet Farrier. pianist. A Christmas Recipe was given by Mrs. bon Ross. • Mrs_ George Fisher introduced the guest speaker Mrs. D. Ireland, Bruce South District President, who humomusiv' referred to asoc- iatkins with many members. She reminded all to keep in order the Home Church and Worrien"s Insti- tute. Mrs, Victor Emerson thanked t Mrs, Ireland and on behalf of the 'W,1, presented her with a gift, for which Mrs_ Ireland graciously thanked the members. More carols were sung. Mrs., Elgin Johnston gave a reading Friendship. On strike was given by Mrs. George Fisher. Mrs, Johnston Conn gave a piano SICAO, followed by.a solo "Christmas" by Mrs. Russel McGinty. A musical contest was held with Mrs. Garnet Farrier playing 10 numbers. Mrs. Doh Ross was the winner for which she received a gift. The singing of Joy to the World and Silent Night ended the cowl singing. The Sectet Sister gifts were then distributed by Mrs. Gaunt and MrS. Fisher. All exhibited their gill and thanked their Secret Sister and then drew names lot next years Secret. Sister. The toll call was answered by, all with a stamped unsigned Xmas card for a Hospital patient.. The 'meeting closed with the singing of the Queen. In keeping with' the spirit, of the season a Christmas gift exchange draw was conducted. During this draw, a 'book prepared by the' convener on. the history of the old song "When You and I Were Young Maggie", complete, with pictures of her home, her tomb- stone' and the mill stream,, was passed among the ladies. The motto, "Know the Value of Your Antiques", covering some necessary facts to know if you are planning on collecting as a hobby, was given by Mrs. Lizraore. She followed this by showing coloured slides she had taken at the &land. Lee Home at Stoney Creek this past spring and summer. There were many beautiful antique items on AAA!. - - - • - these slides.
