THAT
A hydrant located on Campbell
Street, just east of Treleaven's
1V1ill, caused some problems for the
village water system on Monday
from, mid evening until about 12.45
a.m. when water 'was restored to
the system. The hydrant, used all
day Monday • for the Riegling fire,
was damaged and had to be
removed, repaired and replaced.
Village employees were assisted by
Wingham P.U.C. and Porter's
digging equipment.
THAT
Reeve George Joynt advised The
Sentinel Monday that no Christmas
lighting would be erected on
Lucknow's main street this year
due to illness on the village works
department staff.
THAT
Lucknow's newest business,
Char-Man's Work Clothing, oper-
ated by Mrs. Joyce Adamson of
Lucknow, is now open in the Joynt
block. The Adamsons operate the
former Gamnlie Apartments in
Lucknow, where they reside.
THAT
Bill Searle, store manager at
Lucknow District Co-op, ended
la1/2 years with the Co-op last week
and will commence farming on. the
4th. of Kinloss, on the farm of his
father-in-law Jelle de Jong. Mr.
and Mrs. Searle and family will
purchase the farm and Mr. and
Mrs. de Jong will acquire the
Searle house in. Lucknow.
THAT
Nancy Thompson, daughter a
Mr. and Mrs..Don Thompson of
tucknow„ thinks that dad is a bit
'slow picking up the news close at
hand. After reading last week's'
paper, and the story about Bob
Gilchrist finding the old bread
token from Reid's Bakery, Nancy
was quick to point out to her dad
that she also had an old token in
her treasures. Upon checking,
we discovered it to be from the
MacKenzie Bakery in Lucknow and
after some research, found it to be
about 65 years old.. Nancy found it
at the town dump about a year ago.
90th Birthday
On Thursday
Thomas Salkeld of Lucknow will
mark his 90th birthday on Thurs-
day, December 11. Tom was born
in Goderich Township in 1885.
He farmed in Goderich Town-
ship; coming to the St. Helens area
to farm 'in 1920. About eight years
ago' he retired to Lucknow.
Tom has` three daughters, Mrs.
James (Mary) Boyle of Lucknow,
Mrs. John (Margaret) Schmidt of
Calgary and Dr. Helen' Salkeld of
North Gower. His wife died in 1973
and a son Laurence Salkeld died• in
1972: He has 'one grandson and
three granddaughters.
Open House was held at the
Anglican Parish Hall in Lucknow on
Sunday afternoon when friends and
relatives called to extend their best
wishes. °

by Ashfield Federation of Agricul-
ture, was omitted by the 'Sentinel in

4H Achievement Day featuring
"A Touch of Stitchery" was held
on Saturday, December 6th in the
Ripley District School. Leaders for
the Clover Valley club are Mrs. Ray
Hamilton and Mrs. David Elphick.

the completion of six dubs.
Bill Porter returned home last
week after spending a few days in
Wingham Hospital. We wish him
improved health.
