At The Movies
Alice Doesn't Live Here Any-
more", the Warner Bros. comedy-
drama opens today at the Lyceum
Theatre. Ellen Burstyn stars in
Alice Hyatt, an attractive woman,
suddenly widowed. who is forCed to
fall back On her basic self-relianCe
in order to make a new life for
herself. Miss Burstyn won an
Academy Award for her remark-
able performance as "Alice"..
Twelve-year-,old Alfred Lutter, in
his first screen, role. plays Alice's
• son Tommy, who is often disagree,
able. but is wise beyond his years 7
• He becomes oddly jealous when a
romance is kindled between his
mother and a young rancher,
• played by Kris Kristofferson.
"Alice Doesn't Live Here 'Any-
more" has been enthusiastically
received for the honesty with which
it explores the difficulties of being
an independent woman.
Those who read Kyle Onst9tes
best-selling novel, "Mandingo",
will want- to see the movie of the
same name, opening December 7
at the Lyceum. It is a brutal
•
depiction of the treatment of black
slaves in the American South prior
to the Civil War.. Starring are,
James Mason, Susan George,
Perry King and Richard Ward.
"Mandingo" is not a film for the
faint of heart. In trying to show the
true nature of the slavery system,
the producers have included scenes
of physical cruelty and .savage
violence, as well as inter racial sex.
"Mandingo" is 'a shocker!
