NOVEMBER 1965
Two area churches and one from
Toronto formed a new presbytery
called Presbyterian • Reformed
Church. Members' of the Chesley
Free Presbyterian Church, Loch-
alsh Free Presbyterian Church and
Bloor East Presbyterian Church in
Toronto, voted to arnalgamate.
Rev. R. Q. Caldwell, whO resided in
Chesley ministered to both Loch-
alsh and Chesley. Trustees at the
Lochalsh Church were Morford
MacKay, Roy ,MacKay, and
Donald Finlayson: Gordon Finlay-
son was secretary-treasurer.
William Murdie and Son Hard-
ware, a name associated with the
business life of Lucknow for sixty
years, observed. their 60th anniver-
sary , and visitors to the store
received a.cup of coffee and a piece
of anniversary cake in commemora-
tion of the day. Kenneth Murdie
was operating the store, which
came into the Murdie ,name in
1905, at which time his father
William Murdie, a native of
Seaforth, and brother-in-law Jack
Sutherland, purchased the busi-
ness as successors to D. C. Taylor.
30 YEARS AGO
NOVEMBER 1945
Congratulations were being ex-,
tended to the Bank of Montreal,
Lucknow, on the completion of its
fortieth year of • service to the
village and surrounding district. It
was on November 15th, 1905 that •
the branch of the Molson's Bank,
long since merged with the Bank of
Montreal, opened in the premises
of G. A. Siddall, a private banker,
who was moving his office 'to
another site. In 1912 a new brick
front was added to the building.

Victor Emerson.

last week were Russel Gaunt,
Russel Ross and George Tervit.
The community wishes them a very '
speedy recovery.
The United Church Sunday
School concert is Monday, Decem-
ber 22 in the church and Chalmer's
Presbyterian is Tuesday evening in
the church, -December 23.
Nre are 'pleased to report that
Johnston, Conn of Wingham was
able to return home from Wingham
Hospital last week. , -
VVhitechurch Community Mem-
orial Hall committee met on
Wednesday evening in the ' hall
with Mrs. Garnet Farrier, Mrs.
Nettie Ross, Mrs. Lorne Durnin,
Elroy Laidlaw • and Don Bell
present.

Earl Caslick were Mr. and Mrs. Bill

of Lucknow and on Friday, Mr. and
Mrs. Harry Gutoskie, Michelle and
Michael of Kitchener., They also
visited with Mrs. Oberholtzer and
Julie Anne at Wingham _Hospital.

Tuesday, December 9 at 2 p.m.. at
the home of Mrs. Bill 'Evans.

A Touch of Stitchery, attended
Achievement Day at Teeswater
Public School-on Saturday, Novem-,
ber 29. , Whitechurch gave an
Exhibit - Embroidery Stitches and
their uses. The commentator was
Clara Milligan with Wendy Kay
using the pointer. The group
included Kathy .and Lori, Purdon,
Lori Jamieson. Wendy Kay and
Clara Milligan. Due to the• mail
strike our group signed the
application for the next project -
Working with Fruit. ,
We are pleased to learn that Joe
King had his surgery last week and
is doing as well as can be expected..

An early morning fire wiped out
the barn and home of Mr. and Mrs.
Louis Dalton, concession 12 West
Wawanosh. Besides the season's°
crop of hay and grain some
twenty-six head of cattle, four
horses and some hogs were
destroyed in the fire.
