Here it is the last day of November - windy and warm outside. After Saturday night's rain the snow is all gone but likely by the time of reading this it will be back. They say that this week end mild spell is due to huge masses of air moving up from the Gulf of Mexico along the Mississippi Valley to the Great Lakes region which includes Western Ontario. Listening to the sound of those high speed south winds outside one would agree to this explanation. This has happened before. Back on Sunday, November 9, 1913 in the afternoon similar• warm humid masses from the Gulf collided with masses of cold air from Western Canada and United States right over Lake Huron. Last night there was a thunder and lightning storm before midnight - a sign of colder weather. And perhaps it was, the last such storm here till next spring. Almost-, each evening last week there was a freight train passing through Ripley on its way to - Kincardine with cattle cars bring- ing feeder calves from , Western Canada. Mr. -and Mrs. Gary Pollock and son of Toronto spent the week end with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Mel Pollock in Ripley. Visiting last week- with Mrs. Adeline Hackett in Ripley was Mrs. Grace Keane of Hamilton. * * * Twice during the past week the fire whistle sounded calling the Ripley firemen into action. On Tuesday afternoon the fire was reported in the Point Clark area. On Wednesday morning the fire truck only had to go a block west of the firehall 'to the home of Mrs. Peet where there was a chimney fire. Mr. and Mrs.. Donald Cameron and son Bob, in the course of remodelling a part of their farm home, discovered copies of old newspapers dating back to the First' World War. On Monday evening of last week the exective and directors of the Ripley Agricultural Society met with president Morley Scott of Purple Grove in charge. This was' the final meeting of 1975 with the annual meeting scheduled for January _ 12. Gordon Patterson showed slides of last September's Ripley Huron Fall Fair. * * * On Wednesday evening of last week the 4-H Achievement Night for Ripley Clubs in grain, beef, .dairy and forestry was held with Randy Willick of Walkerton in charge. Club leaders taking part were. Bob Campbell for Foreitry, Hugh Mason for Beef, Gordon Bridge for Dairy, and Dennis Bridge for Grain. Prizes and trophies were presented. The evening closed with lunch. 4e * * * * * On Monday 'of last week, the almost forgotten mail truck made a "run" from Kitchener to Kincard- ine putting some mail in the local post offices along, the way. This was the first trip since' the Canada wide mail strike started back in October. * * , m' Mrs. E. O. Forrester returned home to Ripley last week after spending a couple of weeks, with her daughter in Oshawa. * * * * Once again a work bee was organized by John D. MacKay to complete the parking lot at the Ripley Huron Complex.
