THURSDAY COULD BE
IMPORTANT TO YOU
Thursday of this week; Decem-
ber 4th, front 10.001:m. to 9 p.m.,
a public- information centre will be
set up at the town hill auditorium
to explain and diseass the Village/
of Ludmow's new zoning bylaw'
and secondary plan..
The purpose of the centre is to
give the public an opportunity to
review and comment on the draft
plan now before council.
When these two documents are
finalized, they shall be used to
direct and control future expansion
and development in the village.
The easy way to handle Thurs-
day's information centre is to pass
it off as being of no concern to you,
and something the other fellow can
look after. We are almost certain,
from past experience in this type of
municipal information meetc4,
that the majority will handle the
matter in thiS fashion.
But usually, it is that same
majority, after the barn door is shut
and the horse has run away, that
react most strongly when it is
sometimes too late.
Do yourself a Service, and do
your town council a service. See
what they have been struggling
over at the council table for many
months,, See how Lucknow is laid
out for the future and if you don't,
agree, tell them noW, not six
months from now when the
decisions have been enacted.

MORE THAN AVERAGE
INTEREST IN
LEADERSHIP CONTEST
Residents of this part of Western
Ontario will have more than casual
interest in the leadership race for
the. Federal. Progressive Conserva-
tive Party.
As the number of aspirants
st...eking Robert Stanfield's position
continues to grow, it is interesting
to 'note that the Blyth and
Teeswateir communities will both
claim a candidate in the' leadership
contest.
Blyth's entry is Jim Watson,
operator of the Village Restaurant
in that community and a newcomer
to that town. Mr. , Watson's
campaign for the leadership has
been• well organized foi some time
and began while he was still living
in Western Canada. - He has a
committee behind him with repres-
entation from across the country
with his national chairman from
Thorndale and his campaign man-
ager. from ' Calgary. He claims to
have found widespread support
from both Ontario and Western
Canada.
Despite Mr. Watson's organiza-
tion and preparation, he is an
unknown to most everyone in the
Conservative party ranks who will
be casting those- all-important
ballots for leader and his chances,
at this time, seem very remote.
From the Teeswater community,
one of the strongmen in the party
race is that of James Gillies. Jim
Gillies' was. born and raised in
Teeswater and has kept close
personal touch with that commun-
ity over the years. His' mother still
resides in the village where his late
father was a medical practitioner
for many years.
Mr. Gilles is presently member
of parliament for- Don Valley and
has an impressive record as an
economist before being elected as a
mber of parliament in 1972. He
was formerly dean of the faculty of
administrative studies at York
University, Toronto. He is
regarded as one of the leading men
in the Conservative caucus.
Not all is in Mr. Gullies' favour,
he having spoken out against some
of the present, policies of leadership
within his party a few months ago.
Whether this move, will prove
-politically beneficial or otherwise
will remain tp be seen.
The leadership contest in Febru-
ary should attract more than the
usual interest from this part of the
peovirice.

Explain Position
In Land Work
November 27,l975_
The Editor,
The Lucknow Sentinel, ,
Lucknow, Ontario.
Dear Sir,:
This letter is in reply to the
report in your paper of November
19th, 1975 in regard to "Council '
Discuss Land Levelling". We wish
to state that the figure as quoted by
Reeve Joynt as the, estimated cost
quoted by Mr. Gallaher was quoted
in error. The actual quote by Mr.
Gallaher for the estimated cost was
$500.00, more or less. .
Also at the time the proposed
work was discussed the members
of Council were present, along with
the Reeve. It was agreed amongst
the Councillors at that time that the
work was to be done and that extra
fill might be needed to complete
the streets. It was stated and
agreed amongst members of the
Council that if extra fill was
required that it should be talten
from' the property of Mr. Lyons and
that the Village of Lucknow would
pay for any extra fill removed from
the property of William Lyons.
Extra fill was taken from the
property of William Lyons and was
used to level the streets which are
the proPerty of the Village of
Lucknow. The reason the account
was presented by William Lyons to
the Village was that the fill was
used from his Property.
Yours very truly,
William Gallaher,
Wm.' Lyons,

Dear Editor: ,
s--"'! It is nice to see you are doing a
good job of reporting current
affairs, especially, with regards to
Kinloss Township.
I feel a full public hearing, or
report,, should be make to the paper
as to why two good councillors
resigned. As tax-payers, we seem
to be left guessing. Yet, it is our
money we elected to spend in a
careful mariner. -
As an example, Langside roads
received only one third of the
gravel required to do a good job,
yet taxes are up as much as
inflation. I also wonder what red
tape is holding up the school
culvert repairs. If local initiative
was responsible as years ago,
before Ottawa and Toronto started
ruling our lives, it would have been
fixed before school opened his
year and at less cost to, all.
It's' time we put a stop to
Ottawa's foolish' spending.
Yours truly,
J. Green.
