Find Bread Token
Of Years Past
Bob 'Gilchrist of the 4th conces • -
sion of Kinloss Township recently
found an interesting' item on the
ground 'near the barn on his
property.
A silver coloured bread token,
about the site of a 50c piece, was.
enscribed with the wording, "Dom-
inion. Bakery,, T. Reid, Lucknow,•
Good for 1 Loaf of Bread". On the
back was enscribed the coats of
arms of Canadian provinces.
The Thomas Reid and family
bake shop, ice cream parlour and
residence was located •where Tom
Anderson of Lucknow now has his
apartments on main street. The
• baking ovens were in a building at
the rear and to the north-west of
the site.
The last loaf of bread baked by
Reids must have been close, to 35
years ago, an educated guess by
the editor who used to get the odd
donut or other goodie from Bill
Reid while playing, as a child, with
Bob Reid. •
We two youngsters used to stand
there with open mouths and big
eyes until ,Bill, son of the original
owner Thomas Reid and father of
Bob, would throw us a tasty item
with a polite suggestion that, it was
time' t9 leave.
West Huron Junior Farmers, a
newly formed group to the south of
Lucknow, tackled' their first major
fund raising event last week end
and •came out very successfully.
They staged. a Danceathon at
Lucknow Legion Hall, starting at 9
p.m. Friday and ending at 9 a.m.
Saturday.
Pictured abOve, still fresh as a
daisy at 8.45 a.m. Saturday, are the
club president, Mrs. Doug (Dixie)
Cameron, right and her dancing
mate of the moment, Dave Hartin,
treasurer.
47 started the Danceathon and 35
completed the test after twelve '
hours.
Approximately $1000 was raised
through sponsors with a further
$200 raised by admissions and bo-
oth sales to unsponsored dancers.
About 159 non-sponsored dancers
paid $1 each to dance or view the
Danceathon.
Margaret MacPherson earned
the most money for the club. She
,was sponsored for $63.36. •
Food was donated and pop
supplied to the sponsored dancers.
After expenses, the new club
should net about $1000 with
one-third of the prdfits • going in
support of crippled children.
The new club has a membership
of about 54 and 75% of these
participated in the event.
Alex Irvin. and Marilyn Sproul
were awarded prizes for not having
missed a dance.
The first three hours of the
Danceathon, it was. 50 minutes of
dancing and 10 minutes of rest.

minutes on the floor and 15
minutes rest.

Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Culbert of

at a dinner • hosted by West
Wawanosh Township Council at .
the Log Cabin Restaurant, Luck-
now, on Friday evening, November
28. The event was occasioned by
the 'resignation of Mr. Culbert in
December 1974, after serving the
Township of West Wawanosh as its
Road Superintendent for ten years
previous.
The Township Council and its
guests, former Councillors and
Reeves who served the Township
.during Mr. Culbert's period of
service, enjoyed a delicious roast
beef dinner after which six tables of
euchre were set up.
Towards the close of the
evening, Reeve Bob Lyons called
on Harvey and Becky and treasurer
Clarence Greer presented Harvey
with .,a weighted wall clock with
chime. It contained an appropri-
ately engraved inscription. Clerk
Joan Armstrong presented Becky
with a bouquet of roses.
In replying to the presentation,
Harvey reflected, on his associa-
tions with members of Councils
over the years ,and both expressed
their gratitude for the evening.
