From Ontario Hydro Total $1 Minion
Nearly $1 million in special
grants will be allocated by Ontario
Hydro in the next year to area
municipalities and Boards' of Edu-
cation to offset costs incurred by
expansion of the Bruce nuclear
power- development.
The money, distributed under
Hydro's community impact grants
program, will go to nine municipal-
ities, the two Boards of Education
and the Bruce County government.
Don White, information officer
for Ontario Hydro at, the nuclear
develoTment, said grant recipients
have been told how much they will
receive.
Announced by Hydro chairman
Robert Taylor last July, the grants
are to be used for capital projects
required to meet the demand for
services created by new population
in the' area.
In his July announcement, the
Hydro chief said the exact amount
of the grants would' have to be
calculated.
Last week, the Bruce Board of
Education learned it would receive
about $241,000, covering the

period from 1970 to 1975, while It
can expect about $90,000 in 1976
and subsequent years.
Kincardine council learned it
would, receive $26,960 in 1976 and
subsequent, years until 1981, when
its annual grant will rise to $46,500.
Mr. White said the retroactive
portion of all grants will cost Hydro
about $500,000 and will be paid to
recipients by the end of the year.

interim sums of $250,000 paid to
each mutticipality in 1974, pending
the creation of the new grand
formula.
Kincardine, for instance, receiv-
ed about $97,000 too much in the
1970.1975 period. It will repay that
sum by about $20,000 in five equal

$8,057; • Ripley, $3,749; Huron
Township, $389; Bruce County,
$72;354; Grey-Bruce Separate
School Board, $16,633.
Mr. White' said the grants were
arrived at by Hydro after consulta-
tion with municipal clerks and
officialS. The annual grant is based
on 1975' tax rates 'and could
increase with rate increases and
further expansion ,of the Bruce
development.
The grants will cost.Hydro about
$450,000 in 1976 (including a ,
special $125,000 grant in lieu of
taxes paid to 'Bruce Township
where the development is located).
The community impact' grants
continue for an unspecified number
of years. under Hydro plans, and
will likely increase slightly each ,.,
year. •
They will be paid in the early
part of each year.
Approximate amounts of Ahe
annual grants for 1976 are:
Tiverton, $7,070; Kincardine
Township, $11,035; Southampton,
$10;765; Paisley, $8,057; Ripley,
$1,208; Htiron Township, $5,130;
Bruce County, $31,600; Grey-Bruce
Separate School Board, $5,527.
Ontario Hydro also has contrib-
uted to road improvement pro-
grams. in Saugeen. Kincardine and
Bruce Townships and the Villages
of Tiverton, Mr. White noted.
This additional subsidy falls
outside the regular grant structure
and is sometimes forgotten during
discussion of the financial assist-
ance Hydro is prOviding the area,
he said.
He was unable to -estimate the
value of 'the additional road
funding.
Doing no better than average
