Mrs. Peter Chandlerrpresided for
the November meeting of St.
Helens Women's Institute which
opened with the Ode followed by
the Mary Stewart Collect:
The roll call "As a consumer I
would like to see an improvement
in???" was well responded to and
proved very interesting. The
treasurer's report was ' given,
correspondence read and business
dealt with.
The short course "Salute to
Vegetables" will be held in the St.
Helen's Hall on Friday, November
14 from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. with Mrs.
Gordon Struthers and Mrs. Harold
Gaunt as instructors. All interest-
ed women in the area are invited to
attend, just bring a sandwich for
your noon lunch. Card party
season has arrived again and the
second one will be held Thursday;
November 20 with Group 2 in
charge.
Mrs. Harold Gaunt gave a report
on the canvas for the blind. Thank
you notes were to be sent to the
Legion and Mr. John Sleeker for
the gift of tulip bulbs which have
been planted at the hall. Mrs.
James Aitchison gave a report of
the Fall Rally held in October at
Belgrave, which she and Mrs.
Peter. Chandler attended as voting
delegates.
Mrs. Harold Gaunt presided for
the program. The group sang "The
Maple Leaf Forever': and "Abide
With Me" with Mrs. Bruce
Raynard at the piano.
Mrs. Peter Chandler introduCed
the speaker, Mrs. Wightman from
Belgrave, who is the District
President. She gave an interesting
report on the highlights of the 61st
Area Convention held in St.
Thomas in October. Mrs. Ross
Gammie gave her a gift of
appreciation.
Mrs. James Aitchison lave two
readings "Memories of the old
wood stove" and "Fall". The
'motto - "Take responsibility on
your shoulders and leave no room
for chips" was prepared and given
by Mrs. Frank McQuillin. She left
us with many things to think about
and was really enjoyed.
Mrs. Bruce Raynard pleased all
with .a piano solo. Beverley
Aitchison took up the collection.
The meeting closed with 0 Canada
/ and the Institute Grace. A tasty
lunch was served by the hostesses,
Mrs. Earl Jamieson and Mrs.
Harold Gaunt.
$289,350 LIP
Grants For Bruce
The Constituency of Bruce will
benefit from 88 jobs creating 1,930
weeks of work through approval of
17 Local Initiatives Program pro-
jects. Federal funding totalling
$289,350 was announced for the
projects today by Manpower and
Immigration Minister Robert And-
ras.
Projects 'approved include Saug-
een Valley Conservation Authority
which has funding of $25,050, and
provides employment for six people
to assist in the planning and
development of public parks and
conservation picnic areas.
Rotary Club's Children Camp,
sponsored by. the ,Rotary Club of
Owen Sound, is being funded
$9,000 to repair and improve
existing facilities at the camp. in
Keppel Township. The project also
calls for construction of a walk
around the pool area and cleaning
up the grounds and is ,employing
four people.
Sullivan's 125th Birthday Pro-
gress Projedt is being funded
$20,100 and will emploY five people
to create nature nails on 100 acres
of undeveloped land owned by the
Township of Sullivan. Plans also
call for ,the construction of change
houses at Paisley Park and
McCullough's Lake.
Area projects are expected to
begin within' a few weeks It.nd will
recruit unemployed people through
the Canada Manpower Centres.
The jobs, will last until the projects
are completed, or no later than next
June 26.

times of seasonal unemployment:

Nifty Needlers
The eighth meeting of the
Kairshea Nifty' Needlers was held
at the home of Mrs. C. Ritchie on
Thursday, November ,13 at 7.30
p.m.
The meeting began with the
Pledge which was followed by
Bonnie Clark reading the minutes
of the last meeting. The roll call
was "Show your 'Free Choice'
article and tell your favourite
stitch".' Six girls answered the roll
call. The members decided what to
put on their book covers and also
each would do what they wanted
for lettering on, the covers.
Sandra Keith told how to do the
demonstration. , Mrs. Ritchie
explained how to evaluate an
embroidered article.
