CONCERN COULD BE
SHOWN BY ACTIONS,
NOT WORDS
Strikes, strikes and more strikes.
Who will be next? When the
Toronto teachers get their' slice of
the pie and the post office workers
get theirs, who will be the next
underpaid, deprived individual to
fall—behind in the race for -the
almighty buck.
There will always be a new group
to cry the woes of hard times and
compare themselves to someone
else just above them in the
economic ladder.
The Toronto teachers' strike
Points out one thing very clearly.
Degpite what the Toronto teacher
will tell you about his or her
concern for the student who is
suffering from this strike, and
might have to possibly spend
another year in school if the strike
were to continue very long, most
people are very skeptical that their

Rev. poug Kaufman
Was Remembrance
Day Speaker
.KINLOUGH NEWS
The annual Remembrance Day
Service sponsored by the Holyrood
Women's Institute was held in the
Hall on Tuesday morning. P.A.
Murray. a veteran of World War I
was chairman. He welcomed
everyone and spoke very fittingly
on the purpose of Remembrance
Day and addressed his remarks
chiefly to the. Brownies and Guides ,
who attended in a body with their
leaders Mrs. Ann Nicolson, Mrs.
Joan Barr and Mrs, Betty Smith.
0 Canada was sung and two
minutes silence was observed in
memory of those who paid the
supreme sacrifice. All joined in
singing the hymn "Faith of our
Fathers".
At this time Mrs. Ronald
Thacker placed the wreath beside
the Township of Kinloss plaque
which is a memorial. A wreath was
also placed by the Brownie Pack.
Rev. Doug Kaufman of Lucknow
United Church was the guest
speaker. Laurie and Bonnie Clark
favoured with a duet accompanied
by their mother. Mrs. Margaret
Bannerman gave two very approp-
riate readings on Remembrance.
The president of Holyrood Insti-
tute, Mrs. Bill MacPherson, thank-
ed all who had helped with the
service. The closing hymn was "0
God our help in ages past" and
Rev. Kaufman - pronounced the
benediction and God Save the
Queen was sung. Miss Edna Boyle
was pianist for the service.
concern is very genuine.
The Toronto' Star had an
excellent suggestion on Monday's
editorial: page. Concerned about
the student who will fast fall behind
• in his studies, the Star suggetted
that when the strike is over, let
these same teachers demonstrate
their concern, which they claim to
have for. the innocent victims of
their strike,
Let them forego their dozen or so
professional development 'days in
favour Of teaching days to help the
students who have fallen behind.
Let them take Christmas Day and
Boxing Day like any other working
man or woman and fill in with
another ten "days or so teaching at
Christmas time. Let them pass up
the winter break, unknown to
anyone outside the profession, and
teach the kids during that time.
And, if the strike really drags on,
and this is not enough time to bring
the students up to their pre strike
level, let them work 'a few extra
weeks into the summer months,
like the rest of the world does, and
show by their actions that they
really are concerned - about the
lousy deal they have bestowed on
their students.
These are reasonable and fair
suggestions: FOr every hardship
betowed on others, let it return
full circle on these same teachers.
Let them demonstrate concern by
actions, not words.
