Tulips In Front Of Legion Hall
To Mark 50th Anniversary Of Legion
Forty members of the Lucknow
and District Horticulture Society
enjoyed a pot luck supper at their
annual meeting.
The president, Mrs. Harvey
Mole, weleonaed everyone and
gave ,a review of, the year's work;
planting of gardens, bus tours,
special speakers and garden
shows. • The society planted 200
golden tulips in front of the Legion
Hall commemorating the 50th
anniversary of the Legion.
Miss Ada Webster presented the
following slate of officers for

A decision was' made to hold
monthly meetings the 2nd Wednes-
day afternoon at 2.00 p.m.
Miss Ruth Thompson took the
group on an interesting trip to
Africa to visit the, countries of
Kenya, Tasmania. Her slides and
commentary were most interesting.
Elmer Umbach introduced Ruth
and Tom Henderson, who gave
mustcahnumbers on piano, trom-
bone and clarinet.
All participants were thanked
and, singing, of God Save the Queen
closed the meeting.

passed away at

District Hospital Oh Sunday, Nov-
ember 16th. He was in his 79th
year.
The,, funeral will' be held on
Wednesday, Novernber 19th at 2
p.m. with interment. in Greenhill
Cemetery.
The, Olivet group of St. Andrews
United Church Women, Ripley
recently-adopted their third Foster
Child as part of the Christian
Children's Fund of Canada.
For many years this church
group has supported this project
with funds raised through their
rummage sales.
The first adopted child' was
arranged through the Messenger
group and eventually outgrew the
need for assistance.
Prior to this most recent arrange-
ment, the group was also support-
ing two other children in India and
Korea. The new child, Fernando
Caltzontzi Rendon is a 13-year-old
boy from Mexico: /
Funds contributed by sponsoring
groups • and individuals go towards
providing necessary food, clothing,
recreation, education and medical
attention.
The Olivet group of ladies,
presently numbering about 12,
contributes $15 per month for each
child, for a total of S45 monthly.

Died At Pinecrest
Mrs. William Trornmer passed
away on Tuesday, November 11th
at Pinecrest Manor Nursing Home,
Lucknow. She was 87.
The funeral, service, was held on
Friday; November 14 at MacKenzie
Memorial Chapel, Lucknow.
Interment,was in Wanner Men-
nonite Cemetery, Waterloo Town-
ship.
The rummage sale profits have
always paid for. this ,support.
local collectors obtaining first day

by a Vancouver artist, Rudy

crest, the traditional bugle
significant of Remembrance Day

anniversary, 1925-1975..
Tree Removal In
Lucknow Affects
About 25 Trees
South Western Tree Service of
Bayfield removed about 25 trees
from various locations in the village
this week.
Councillors Murvin Solomon and
Oliver `Glenn, Village foreman Cliff
Crawford and representatives from'
the tree cutting service' made an
inspection of the town last week' to
determine the necessary trees
which had to be removed. While
the 'complete program will not be
done • at this time, council has
budgeted for . about $900 worth, of
work.
The trees and orrlimbs• being
removed are dead, or are a danger.
Bell Telephone will share in some
of the cost of removal with the
balance shared by the local hydro
and village accounts.
Two Councillors
Resign From
Kinloss Board
Two Kinloss Township Council-
lors, Barry Johnston and Grant
Eckenswiller, have tendered their
resignations as members of the
Kinloss Board.
Their resignations' 'were dealt
with at a special meeting of council
held on Tuesday, November 11th.
One appointment, that of Walter
Breckles of Kinlough, was made to
fill out the unexpired term of one of
the councillors. The second
appointment has yet to be made.
Mrs. Charles Wilkins of Ashfield
Township "was-elecled presided 'Of
Local 335 of the National Farmers
Union at the annual meeting on
November 10 at Brookside School.
• Other elected officers are' vice
president, Lorne McDonald; direct-
ors, Len. O'Loughlin, John Howard,

Mrs. Glenn (Lois) Noble of
Lucknow received her Associate
ship of the Royal Conservatory of
Music of Toronto (A.R.C.T.) at
convocation exercises held in the
Concert Hail at the Toronto
Conservatory on November 12.
The Honourable Pauline M.
McGibbon, Lieutenant Governor of
Ontario, conferred, the degree on
behalf of the Conservatory. • Lois
has been teaching piano students
in Lucknow for the past two years
and is continuing with her teach-
ing.

interesting presentation and slides
were shown by Marilyn and Don
bringing out their concern with the
dangers involved in nuclear ener-
gy.
A draw was made for 3 prizes.
First prize, a hand made afghan.
-was won by Mrs. Kelso McNay;
'2nd prize, $30 of meat at Button's,
was won by Agnes Deiberguc and
3rd prize, a set of hand made place
-mats, was won by Arnie Van
Diepenbeek.
Council Discuss
Land Levelling
W. H. Gallaher of the Wroxeter
area and Bill Lyons of Lucknow met
with Lucknow Village Council at
their regular November meeting to
discuss payment of work done at
the Lyons property south-west of
Pinecrest Manor Nursing Home.
Both the village and Mr. Lyons
had employed the services of Mr.
Gallaher last Fall and this spring in
