Plan For Canvass

The Ripley District Bible Society
does not have many meetings, but
it is very alive and has many loyal
supporters. During the past year,
donations to the Society igmemory
of deceased members amounted to
$104. The 1974 canvas amounted
to $425.35 and some late donations
were' received. The collection
taken .at the Reunion Church
Service amounted to $703.10 which
was credited' equally to.' Pine River
Branch and Ripley Branch.
On Vov,erriker 6th, a meetingwa.s
held' 'at the home of Mrs. Wm.
Arnold, who completed her hus-
band's year as treasurer of Ripley
District Branch. Plans were. made
for the 1975 canvas which will
begin' on November 10th and it is
hoped to have all-collections turned
in to the 'new treasurer, Reg
Godfrey. by . December 13th. .
Cameron • MacAuley. continues as
chairman with the assistance of the
local. clergy. With ' the help of
everyone in the. area, many more
Bibles. will be • printed in various
languages and distributed.

Cancer Detection
'Units 4 and 5 of. Lucknow United
Church Women held A joint
meeting in the assembly room of
the church on November 4th. Mrs:
Leonard Ritchie opened the meet-
ing with a reading. Hymn 252 was
sung followed by prayer by Mrs.
.Chas. Anderson.
A report was given on the
proceeds from the fowl supper and
a tecent wedding. The minutes of
both units were read folloWed by
the roll call.
Mrs. Jack McKim had arranged
fora film on cancer detection to be
shOwn„ after which Dr.. McKim
answered questions that were
asked by several present. Mrs.

The Primary children enjoyed a
Hallowe'en Party in their class-
rooms last Friday. There were
many strange creatures around the
halls in the afternoon. Everyone
enjoyed the candy and treats that
they brought to their party,
Robert 'Storey has, been absent
for a few weeks due to an eye
infection. Everyone finds it quite
interesting to watch while the,
drops are put in his eye.
We have been enjoying the
beautiful fall weather on the
playground. So many of us play
soccer it is hard to find a space free
to kick the ball around.
Many children are quite stilt
after their first . skating session at
the new complex. Unfortunately,
we are not in shape.
FLAG FOOTFALL
. This week in flag football, Team
4 beat Team 1 and then Team I
turned •around and beat Team 4.
The playoffs are just getting
underway.
Donald Thompson thanked Dr. and
Mrs. McKim for bringing this very
informative information to us.
The scripture reading was taken
by Mrs. Elmo Sanderson. Mrs..
Robert frwin read a poem "Wis-
dom". Mrs. Ross Henderson
,offered a prayer. Hymn 500 was
sung and the meeting closed with
the benediction. Lunch was served
by the 'committees in charge.

Citizenship was the theme for
the general meeting of the Luck-
now United Church . Women. A
very informative program was
presented by the citizenship com-
mittee, Mrs. Clarence Irwin, Mrs.
Clarence Ritchie and Mrs. Eldon
Henderson,.
A reading explaining the real
Meaning of Christian citizenship
was given by Mrs. Ritchie.
Chapter I Revelations' was , read by
Mrs. Irwin followed by prayer by
Mrs. Henderson.
Miss. Jessie • McPherson of Kin-
cardine was guest speaker. Prior to
her retirement six . years ago she
was superintendent of the provin-
cial prison for women in Portage La
Prairie as well as being associated
with the girls training school. Prior
to this she had considerable

ian Education, Mrs. Ken Cameron
for membership, Mrs. Glen Wald-
en for manse and Mrs. Eldon
Henderson for special occasions.

work so rewarding. She outlined
the various programs carried on

the prison to punish but to rehab
ilitate. Love and understanding are
needed most in dealing with the
inmates and that little things mean
so much. She reminded the ladies
that Christian work can be, so
practical and urged them to put
their love and concern into
practice.

Mrs. Gordon Cayley introduced

boree at Landon Bay. "namely
Joanne Ritchie. Kay Morrison and
Barbara Henderson. Each gave a
short report which proved interest-
ing. 1200 C.G.IT. girls.' and
leaders were present. in keeping
. c with the 60th anniversary of
C.G.I.T. Mrs; Cayley also com-
mented that she: Elizabeth and
Nancy Ritchie had attended a
Leatierama meeting in Bolton. The
1/1..C.W. has generously supported
these C.G.I.T. projects.
Mrs. J. Treleaven presided for
the business part of the meeting.
Mrs. Alex Andrew gave the
financial report which show'ed
S5350 raised to date and expendit-
ures S3307. The carpeting of the
steps has been completed and new
vacuum cleaner purchased.. Cor-
respondence was read by Mrs. Ken
Cameron and a request to entertain
the patients at Pinecrest. Manor
was dealt with.
Mrs. Gordon Morrison reported
for social functions, giving a
detailed account of the anniversary
supper which netted $1110. Mrs.
