Well Hailowe'en is over for
another Year.. ThroUghout the
Ripley area everyone is remarking
hoW peaceful and quiet it -passed.
And for this there is a feeling of
appreciation and gratitude. One
very nice, feature ' of such a
Hallowe'en is that" it affords the
young boys and girls to travel along
the streets going from house to
house to pick up treats. It is always
nice to have the children from the
farms in the area come into Ripley
and join with those here. The fact
that it was a dry evening made it all
the better for the young folks.
Thanks again for this Hallowe'en -
One •of the most peaceful and
orderly the village has ever
experienced in its ,hundred year
history.

'7- Last Wednesday, right at twelve
noon, there was a big exciting
event here - moving a house down
Ripley's main street south to north.
Doing the job was the W. R.,
Parsons firm •of Staffa - Western
Ontario's movers. The house came
from the 12th • concession of
Ashfield, across 'the Ken MacKen-
zie or MacRae sideroad, thence
along 86 highway to the Ripley,
corner, then in the fifteenth to
Ripley 3.. then north to Dr. Donald
Milne's place, the former Shewfelt
Seed Cleaning place east of
Kincardine on Highway nine. Here
it now sits up on' its concrete
foundation ready for renovation. it
is reported to be the Danny Long
hoUse just east of the :Rollie Grant
place on the 12th of Ashfield.
The nice weather of the past two
weeks has permitted corn harvest-
ing and fall plowing on the farms
throughout this area. And the
farmers have been busy. It is
amazing how quickly the big

With snow across the north part'
of Ontario, an increasing number of
birds have been seen this past
week. Forced down here are flocks
of the yellow evening grosbeaks. A
number of these grosbeaks have
been sighted eating the keys on the
Manitoba maple. trees around
Ripley. Also sighted last Friday on
the fifteenth north by the, former
number three school house, was a
flock of snowbirds.
