At Age 13
R. KEVIN REED
Richard Kevin Reed, age 13 of
Hazel Park, Michigan,, died Tues-
day, October 28th. in William
Beaumont Hospital, Royal Oak,
following, a long •illness. He was
born December 7, 1961, in Royal
Oak.
Kevin attended Beecher Junior
High School, Hazel Park. He was a
member: of the Student, Council,
football team, bowling league, and
played alto saxaphone in the
marching band.
Surviving are his parents, Mr.
and Mrs. Richard. (Carolina) Reed;
two brothers, James, Lemoore
Naval Air Station, Lemoore, Cali-
fornia; Ronald, Highland Park; his
maternal grandmother, Mrs. Glad-
.ys Kircher . of Bridgman; his
paternal grandparents, Mr. and
Mrs. W. G. Reed of Lucknow.
Friends called at the Ashley
Funeral Home, 329 East Woodruff,
Hazel Park.
The funeral service was held at
the First United Methodist Church,
Hazel Park., The Rev. IL Reginald
Cattel officiated.
Burial was in Roseland Park
Cemetery, Berkley. Memorials
were received 'for the William
Beaumont Hospital Leukemia
Fund.
Pallbearers were Ray Cunning-
ham of Lucknow; Keith Kamiski,
Bill Gnegy, Robert Allen, Jeff
Tolafield, Tony Bradford, all of
Hazel Park. '
Honorary Pallbearers were Jeff
Rygivelski, Jim Cole, Doug Thack-
er,. Chuck 'Allen, all of Hazel Park.

Band Concert By
Goderich Musicians
On Saturday evening, November
1, a small but enthusiastic crowd
gathered at the Lucknow Public
School to hear a concert presented
by the Goderich Lake town band.
The concert was sponsored by the
Lucknow Concert Band and was
held in return for the concert by the
Lucknow Band at the Goderich
band shell earlier in the year.
The band 'of about .30 membet7
played • a variety of • numbers
ranging from "Strangers in the
Night" to "Try a Little Kindness"
and the audience was also treated
to several solos by members of the
band.
Many thanks go out to the
members of the Goderich Band for
the fine concert which they
presented and all those who helped
with the arrangements for the
concert.
Forty employees of the Bruce.
County highways department have
been laid' off for' a three-week
period, county engineer Eldon
Yundt said last week.
The workers, employed at main-
tenance .and construction nroiects
along the county's highway sys-
tem, are members. of Local 1654,
Canadian Union of Public Employ-
ees.
Mr. Yundt said the move was
necessitated by the highway de-
partment going, over budget on its
anticipated $75 expenditures of
$1,639,000..
He estimated the layoff will save
about $30,000 but will still- leave
the department with a deficit of
$25,000 to $50,000, depending on
final expenditures.
Two-thirds of the workers will
take holidays during at least part of
the three weeks, he said, while the
remainder ,will be eligible for
unemployment benefits for, all or
part of the layoff.
