Groups - Marching On" was the theme • fOr a Women's Missionary Society •. Rally of Maitland Presbyterial held OtiVirednesday evening, October 22 in the. Fellowship Hall of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Wingham. About 150 attended this special Centennial event which was • planned and • conducted by the • ;viee-presidents of this irmganization for alt W.M.S. groups of this • Presbyterial. This meeting replac- ed the twp sectional meetings held each Fall. Mrs. Don Robertson of • Kinlough, lst vice president, presided and introduced the theme, ''Marching On' ' . Mrs. • Alvin Mundell conducted a hymn - sing which included newly compos- ed words for Maitland Presbyterial to the tune of "Onward Christian Soldiers". Mrs. Hazel Bateman was pianist. - Mrs. Robert Armstrong, Wing - ham, brought greetings and wel- comed the ladies- to the Wingham Church. A very effective pageant "Rern7 embrance" was presented when a representative from each of the 19 auxiliaries gave a short history of her group including any highlights. Each lady wore a blue sash with the name of her group and the date it was organized. Mrs.. Barbara Burton, Kincardine introduced the pageant and represented her. W.M.S. which was organized in 1881. Mrs. Morgan Henderson spoke for Lucknow Afternoon, organized in 1883 by Mrs. Cameron who was • also the first president of Maitland Presbyterial which was organized on July 18, 1884, with the Kincardine, Lucknow, St. Helens and Brussels Societies. Lucknow is proud of the following missionaries • who went out from their congrega- tion, Annie McKenzie to Korea, Isabel McIntosh to China in 1903, Ethel Cameron to China in 1911, Annie Mark McKay to India as a medical missionary, Catherine Mc- Kay, Peru . in 1911, - Dorothy • Douglas to Formosa (now Taiwan) in 1928.. Miss Pearl Henderson trained as a deaconess. Brussels was formed in 1884 as • an auxiliary of the Women's' Foreign Mission Society with 'meetings every 3 months. In 1907 a Home Missionary Society. was • formed. Bales of clothing and quilts 'were sent to the North West Indians and to Glace Bay. • Mrs. Gerald Gibson gave this history. Mrs. George Sutherland report- ed two auxiliaries were formed at Ripley for Huron and » Knox Churches in 1884» and , 1885 respectively. • In 1925 those remaining Presbyterian met in Knox Church and 28 members organized. Three members have been President of the Presbyterial, namely Mrs.Rev. A. Sutherland, Mrs. Allan MacAuley and Mrs. George. •Sutherland. Mrs, Cal • MacDonald is the only living charter member. Mrs. Joe Walker represented Bluevale W.M.S. which was organ- ized in 1885, and reported their membership had remained at -18 • since the war years. Their highlight was their 50th anniver- - ary. in 1935 when they had Brussels, • Wingham, Eadie's Church and VVIiitechurch join with them 'to celebrate. Mrs. Peter de Boer reported for Langside which was also organized in 1885, by Mrs. Leask of St. Helens. There was a lapse from December 1890 to June 1893 when they were re -organized. In 1943 the 50th anniversary was celebrat- ed with Mrs. •Neil MacDonald in charge. In June 1975 this group disbanded because of small mem- bership. Mrs. Gordon Wall reported for Wingham Afternoon which was organized in 1887 as St. » Andrew's Foreign Missionary Society by. • Mrs. Ross and Mrs. Hutchison of Brussels with 14 members. In 1914 • the name of many groups became The Women's Missionary Society. Dr. Caroline MacDonald went from this'church to Japan, and Miss Marion Williamson •tp the Bhil Field, India. Highlights included having the Presbyterial Annual meeting each year, hosting the Synodical twice and this Centennial is another. • Mrs. Dawson Craig outlined the history of the Whitechurch group which was first organized as W.F.M.S. in 1889, also by Mrs. Leask. In 1911 a Home Missionary Society was formed and the two groups met on the same day sharing the time. In 1914 the two groups amalgamated and became the W.M.S. South Kinloss as reported by Mrs. Ira Dickie was organized in 1888 with 8 members. Present membership is 30. Missionaries from this church, were Dr. and Mrs. Hugh MacMillan who served -in Formosa (now Taiwan) for 38 years. In » 1944 the Diamond Jubilee of Maitland Presbyterial was held in South Kinloss with Mrs. Hugh MacMillan the speaker. Mrs. Jim West represented Ashfield which was formed June 8, 1891 by two minister's wives Mrs. A. Sutherland of •Ripley and Mrs. John McNab of Lucknow. Mrs. Lloyd Felker gave- the history of Molesworth Afternoon Auxiliary which was organized in 1893 as a W.F.M.S. with a membership f 19 which is also the ,present memb?Mfi. iss Cather- ine Campbell was designated as a worker in the foreign field » at Neemuch, India for 20 years', and • later at Banswara for another 20 years. For her invaluable service in a famine and plague 1899-1901, she was presented with a medal "for public service in India". In .September 1943 Molesworth cele= brated its 50th, anniversary with -Mr. and Mrs. Rumble speaking on their work in Japan. Mrs. John Barr outlined the history of Kinlough W.M.S. which was organized in 1893 by Mrs. Rev.' B. M. Johnston of Paisley as W.F.M.S. jointly with Riversdale. In 1899 each congregation formed its own auxiliary with Mrs. Paxton the first president. Miss Helen. Malcolm .received the first Life Membership in 1901, and' in 1952 Mrs. J. R. Lane was presented with one, being the only charter member living in the vicinity. The 60th anniversary was celebrated in 1053 with Rev. B. F. Andrew of Hanover speaking Of his missionary work in British Guiana. Mrs. Ken MacDonald reported for the Teeswater W.M.S. that in July 1878 this group was organized with 35. members. Teeswater was in Bruce Presbytery at this time. In 1893 Teeswater was transferred to» Maitland Presbytery. Women's Home Missionary Society was' organized and this interested the younger women in mission work. In 1914 they amalgamated to form W.M.S. In 1915 the Home Helpers was organized to include the whole congregation.» Teeswater had one President of Presbyterial, Mrs. » A. G. Reid for 5 years. • Belmore's history was given by Mrs. Ralph Dickson. In 1894 in the Saugeen Presbyterial, the Belmore Auxiliary of W.F.M.S. was formed with Mrs. » A.. » C. .Stewart as president and 13» members enroll- ed. Mrs. Dick West, in charge of the meeting, opened with call to worship and hymn108 was sung. W.M.S. Purpose was' then repeated followed by prayer. -Responsive reading of Psalm 103» was followed by a hymn. Scripture was taken from» Luke: 11-18. Mrs. Jim MacKenzie» had the meditation on tepers, followed by meditation taken from the Glad Tidings service; taking part were: Mrs. Dick West, Mrs. Gordon Robb, Mrs. Jim MacKenzie. Mrs. Jim West presented a reading "Being Thankful On All Seasons". Sixteen ladies answered the roll call a "Verse on Thanksgiving". Offertory prayer was given by Mrs. Gordon Robb. Mrs, Jim West presided for the business part of the meeting. A report was given on the congregational meeting held at Ripley on October 4th. ' Glad Tidings and Presbyterian Record are now due.
