LOOKING BACKWARDS
THROUGH THE SENTINEL FILES
A real oddity occurred at the
Bayne MacLennan farm, Ashfield.
A ring, lost by Bayne's mother
some 15 years previously, turned
up . on a potato taken from the
MacLennan garden. Mrs. MacLen-
nan was washing_ some potatoes
when the ring was noticed wrapped
around a portion of a potato. A
diamond and one ruby were still in
the ring. 0
Janet Carruthers, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Virden Mowbray of,
Lucknow, received her Gold Cord,'
the highest award in Guiding.
Fire destroyed a large T-shaped
barn on the 'James Brooks farm,
concession 11, Huron Township.
The building, and contents of No.
9 school in Kinloss were sold. The
trend to central education resulted
in many one-room schools being
disposed of.
Ernest Crawford of Port Albert
purchased the 'feed business of
Lorne MacLennan. Mr. Crawford
was currently awaiting his dis-
charge from the R.C.4.F„ in which
branch of the service he, served for
four years.
Over two and a half tons of warm
and serviceable clothing and foot-
wear were contributed by residents
of Lucknow and District to the
National Clothing Collection.

OCTOBER 1925
Following very fine October
weather, , a sleet storm 'with very
strong wind prevailed over West-
ern Ontario accompanied by snow.
The high wind resulted in great
damage to apple orchards and the
Kinioss Township
Council Minutes
Kinloss Council met in regular
session on October 6th, the Reeve
and all Council present. ,
The minutes of September 2nd
and 15th and 24th were adopted as
read. A representative from Frank
Cowan Co. Ltd. was present, along
with Frank Thompson, to review
insurance held by 'the Township
and 'it was decided to renew the
insurance with minor changes f?r
the ensuing 'year. McQillvary and
Company were appointed auditors
for the year 1975 at a cost not to
exceed 1974 fees. A. M. Harper '
has amalgamated with this Com-
. pany.
The following accounts were
ordered paid; General $2166.77,
- Drains $579.51, Highvitays'i
$10,846.38., ,
The meeting adjourned until
November 3rd at 7.30 or at the call
of the reeve.

apple crop. Apple picking had
been in progress for some time but
thousands of barrels of good winter
apples were still on the trees in
Huron and South Bince. Many pf
these were blown down rendering
them unfit for packing. Many trees
were broken or uprooted.
