Church Anniversary
Held On Sunday
Lucknow United Church marked
its 113th anniversary on_ Sunday,
October 19th with services morning
and evening. '
Rev. Craig. Railton, minister at
St. Luke's United Church, Cank•
bridge-Hespeler, was guest
preacher and gave forceful and
inspiring messages at both servic-
es.
His 11 a.m. sermon was "Wit-
nesses You Are" and in the
evening "Reluctant Heroes".
Guest soloist in the morning was
Mrs. Don Bell of Kinloss Town-
ship.
Musical guests in the evening
were members of St. Andrew's
Presbyterian Church Bell choir of
Wingham under the direction of
Gordon Leggatt.
The Lucknow United Church
choir, under the direction of Mrs.
Marilyn Johnson, with organist
Mary Ellen Havens, rendered
musical numbers, morning and
evening. Gayle Pritchard assisted
at the piano at the morning service.
On Tuesday evening the United
Church Women held their annual
Hot Turkey Supper.

DUNGANNON NEWS
Several from the Dungannon
congregation attended anniversary
services at Nile on Sunday and
heard the inspiring address given
by Rev. George D. Witt of St.
Paul's United Church, Oakville,
speaking on the topic, "Let there
be no, uncertain sound". The
music Of Goderich Teen Tones
under the leadership of Mrs. D.
Stewart was much enjoyed by all.
Lunch was served in the basement
afterwards for•those who could stay
for a social hour..
The Explorer group meets on
Monday at 7 p.m. in Sunday School
room.

The sixth meeting of the
Kairshea Nifty Needlers was held
at the home of Mrs. C. Ritchie on '
Thursday, October 16 at 7.30. p.m.
The meeting began with the
pledge which was followed by
Sandra Keith reading the minutes
of the last meeting.
Vice president, BOnnie Clark,
conducted the meeting.
The roll call: was "An idea for
Achievement" Day". Five girls
answered it. Sandra showed and
told us 'how we could use the satin
stitch and the' sheaf filler stitch.
The leaders showed us how to do
the French knot.
The next meeting will be held at
the home of Sandra Keith on
Thursday, October 30 at 7.30 p.m.

Peady Stitchers
The fourth meeting of the
"Seven Steady Stitchers" was held
October 11 at the home of Karen
Lowry. The, meeting opened with
the 4-H pledge which was followed
by the minutes as read by Heather.
Various uses for the twisted
chain stitch are filling in and
outlining. The three kinds of
couching and the satin stitch were
learned. Achievement Day was
discussed briefly, but no decisions
were made.
The' three options for the club
next fall .are sewing leisure wear,
woolen products, and blouses. 'The
meeting was then adjourned.
Doo-Nuts
The sixth meeting of Dungannon
Doonuts opened with the 4-H
pledge. °
Nine members answered the roll
call which was 'to tell the supper
dish they made using bread as a
main ingredient. 'Elaine Stewart
read the minutes of the last
meeting. ' This week's press
reporter and secretary is Arlene.
TraVis. •
For discussion they' read from
the member's pamphlet and des-
cribed one bread popular in
Germany, Holland and Russia. For
demonstration the girls made
Swedish Tea Ring; Chelsea Buns
and Hungarian Bubble Ring, which
they also sampled.
The next -meeting will be on_
October 15th at 7 p.m. at the home
of Mrs. Bev Maclnnes.
Dungannon I Doonuts 4-H club
held meeting 7 and roll call was
"Name a use for bread other than
for toast or sandwich!'. Presi
reporter and secretary for this week
is Darlene Austin.
For demonstration the girls '
made Italian Bread Sticks, which
were eaten at the close of the
meeting. They were' good but some
got a little burnt. 'For discussion
each read her ideas for a skit for
Achievement Day., It was agreed
that Debbie Austin's was the be'st,
and she picked the parts to be
played.
The questions on the discuSsion
sheet were answered and blanks
filled in. The girls agreed to haVe
another meeting to check the books
and work on the skit.
Knifty Kneaders
The fourth meeting of the Knifty
Kneaders opened with the 4-H
pledge. The meeting was at the
home of ,Mrs. D. Van Osch. Eight
members answered the roll call.
The next meeting will be on
October the 21st at Mrs. E. Evers'
home. Everyone agreed to choose
the different rolls and shape of
exhibit for. Achievement Day. Mrs.
D. Van Osch started the Basic Roll
dough so it will rise and we all had
a chance to shape the dough. We
saw the • dough rise but. it was
baking when we went home.
We discussed the goodness of
bread, food guide for good health,
sweet dough for buns and rolls and
the sour dough.
The leaders discussed the Menu
Planning around the Canada Food
Guide. We chose 4. people to make
cheese puff and hamburger to be
done at the next meeting. The
meeting closed with the 4-H motto.
Reid's Corners
' The fourth meeting of the Reid's
Corners 4-H Club was held on
October 14 at Laurie Gibson's. The
meeting came to' order, with the 4-H
pledge, and then four members
answered the roll call. The name of
this club is, the "Super Stitchers".
A free choice article was
discussed and everyone did the
couching outline stitch, and the
couching crossed stitch. Stitches
were' done on the samplers, The
meeting was adjourned.
Whitechurch 4-H club, the Nifty
Needlers, held their fourth meeting
at the home of Lori Jamieson and
opened by the president Wendy
Kay with the pledge.
The roll' call was answered by 5,
showing'their idea for a free choice
article. The next meeting will be
held Wednesday, October 22 at, 7
p.m. at the home of Wendy Kay.
The minutes were read by Lori
Purdon.
The discussion centred on the
uses of twisted chain stitch on the
free choice article. The group work
and demonstration was couching
outline and cross and designing on
free choice article. The meeting
closed with the 4-H creed.

Whitechurch
The second meeting' of • White-
church 4-H club was opened by the •
president Wendy Kay with the 4-H
pledge. The minutes of the last
meeting were read by Lori Jamie-
son.
The meeting was held at the
home of leader Mrs.' Walter Elliott
Meeting 3 will be held October 15
at 7 p.m. at the home of Clara
Milligan. We discussed whether to
attend the pot luck dinner or eat
out. We decided to eat out. The
leaders read the list of clubs to
come and one was chosen. The roll
call, "The article chosen to display
learners stitches and why" - a wall
hanger was chosen, because it will
be , something to hand in my
bedropm and was answered by, 6
members.
Discussion was reviewed on the.
colour wheel and color harmony.
Demonstrations were how to make
a patern, cut our learner stitches
article, transfer learners stitches,
threading a needle, starting and
ending thread.
Home Assignment work on
Record Book, on sampler , and
learner stitches on article. The
meeting closed with all repeating
the 4-H Creed.
