Brownies Tour
Fire Station
T. Sillick and J. Cassidy of the
Teeswater Fire Department con-
ducted the Holyrood Brownies and
Guides around the fire station.
The Brownies started the meet-
ing by taking collection and were
joined by three new Guides, Lois-
Hanna, Caryn Nicolson and Janice
Hayes who flew up from Brownies
last 'week.
Then they were transported in
cars driven by Mrs. D. Webster,
Mrs. H. Smith and Mrs. A. C.
Nicolson, the Brown Owl, to the
fire station.
When ,they arrived they were
escorted. around the fire station,
while the men explained the' steps
to take if fire occurs in the house, in
the barn or Outside.
They were 'shown how an oxygen
mask for a fireman was used and
the resuscitation for people in
breathing distress.
Then, for the big attraction, the
Brownies were taken around' Tees-
water in the fire truck, which
everyone enjoyed: We extend
thanks to the Teeswater Fire
Department. .
N.F.U. NEWS
The National Farmers Union
women in Region 3 (Ontario) were
fortunate to be selected as one of
the groups to receive a grant from
the Federal Government for their
project for International Women's
Year. •
The name chosen for the project
is "Farm Women in Our Society".
It is expected that the results of the
project will shoW that farm women
'can, and do contribute a great deal
to the farm unit and to society for
which they receive little, if, any,
recognition.
A survey of farm families will be
conducted to determine the input of
women .to the operation of the
farm. About 2000 questionnaires
will be completed in Ontario and
slides taken showing actual farm
work performed by women. A
report from' these will then be
prepared and printed.
Local 335 committee members
for the project are Mrs. Lorne
McDonald, chairla'dy; Mrs. John
Howard; Mrs. John Austin.
