Lucknow Home
Bob and Mary MacNay, propriet-
ors of the Ambertey Store, miracul-
ously escaped injury early Saturday
morning when involved in a motor
accident at Guelph.
Bob hasileen doing relief work
on the Great Lakes and had
completed five weeks . 2nd officer
on the M.V. Simcoe. e the
boat Friday and Mary had driven to
St. Catharines to pick him up..
The couple were on the return
trip home at the time of the accid-
ent, which occurred on the Guelph
Bypass about 2.1'0 a.m. Saturday.
A car carrying three men,
overtook the MacNay vehicle from
behind and drove straight into the
rear of the car. • °
It is estimated that the, MacNay
vehicle was going about '60 m.p.h.
at the, time on a straight stretch of
road. There was no other traffic on
the road at the time.
Force of the impact from behind
threw the MacNay vehicle out of
control, 15 to 20 feet into the air,
catapulting it 150 feet into a
marshy area by the roadside. The
1973 Buick was demolished.
Bob and Mary walked away from
the accident' with nothing more
than cuts and bruises, and some
whiplash effect. The car did not
roll over and this has been credited
to the fact that it landed on the soft
marshy ground.
"The three men in the other car
were not seriously injuted. All , five
were checked at hospital. Bob and
Mary arrived home by' taxi about 7
a.m. Saturday morning. In
addition to the car damage, Bob's
suitcase and duffle bag were in the
trunk and some of his clothes and
personal belongings were destroy-
ed.
