THAT Mrs. A. R., Finlayson, formerly of Lucknow and at present a resident at Cosy Cottage Nursing Hpme, R. R. 5 Lucknow, observed her 95th birthday on Sunday, October 5th. Mrs. Finlayson enjoys fairly good health. THAT Steve Walters, son of Mr. and Mrs. Gord Walters of Bruce Street, Goderich, and grandson of Lorne Farrish, Lucknow received a gold award in the Canadian Young Olympian Program. Steve earned points largely through bicycling and swimming. He was one of 27 youngsters in Canada to receive the award and of those six were from Huron-Perth. Over 30,000 young- sters are enrolled in/the program. THAT Ted .Collyer of Meaford, spn Of Mr. and Mrs. ' Stuart. Collyer of Lucknow, caught a Rainbow Trout while fishing at POrt Albert Saturday that weighed 12 lbs. and measured 29" long. Ted got a big hand from the many other luckless fishermen lining the river bank. THAT Harold "Toby" Greer of Luck- now has grown an unusual show dahlia in his garden which has two colours on the same stem. One flower is bronze, striped with red and the other is mauve, striped with red. The presence of the mauve colour is an unusual occurrence as there were no other mauve dahlias in, the garden. THAT Lucknow Recreation Committee will sponsor a sale or swap of used hockey equipment which will be held at the arena on Saturday. An ad explains the details elsewhere in this issue. Buy, sell or trade this Saturday. • THAT A fire call during the supper hour 'Monday was to the town dump where a fire was burning, causing heavy smoke to spread over a wide area. LANGSIDE We are sorry to report that Jim Moffat is a patient in Wingham Hospital. We hope he will soon\ be able to be home again. Mary Bongertman of London and Joanne of Lucknow spent a few days last week with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Bongertman. Mr. and Mrs. Alec Orr of near Montreal called on his brothers Bob and Dick Orr on t Tuesday and Wednesday. They were, starting home after a two week vacation. There was no service at Langside Church Sunday due to having special Centennial service at Whitechurch. Next week the• service will be at the 'usual time. The door-to-door canvass will be made by • local people - Our neighbours, who will-be properly identified by a. lapel sticker. Senior students of Lucknow Central Public School will canvass in Lucknow and area. In some areas a mail campaign a conducted appealing to businesses, industries and the general public under the letterhead of CNIB. The CNIB, which can provide some 82 services to the blind, is the only organization which adequately serves the needs of the blind people in this area. Your support to the CNIB will be greatly appreciated by your blind neighbours, and by all who assist in serving their requirements.
