Nifty Needlers
The fifth meeting of the Kairshea
Nifty Needlers was held at the
home of Bonnie Clark on Thursday,
October 2 at 7.30 p.m.
The meeting began with the'
pledge which was followed by
Ivonne Hartemink reading the
minutes of the last meeting. .
The roll call was, "What have
you decided to make for your Free
Choice article. •It was answered by
six girls.
Sandra gave us 'an outline ot the
history of embroidery. Mrs.
Ritchie reviewed with us colour and
design. The leaders showed us'
how to do the satin stitch and the
sheaf filler stitch.
We all worked on our samplers.
Knifty Kneaders
The third meeting was held at
Mrs. Ever's place. The meeting
was opened with th&minutes of the
last meeting. Eight members
answered the roll call. The next
meeting is on October 6' at Mrs.
Van Osch's place.
We discussed the difference
between batter bread and white
bread. We set a committee for
Achievement Day to look after the
exhibit. These are Kathy O'Keefe,
Janet MacDonald and Linda Tayl-
or. The demonstration was held by
Johanna Van Diepen and Linda.
Taylor did the batter bread., We
had a sample of the batter bread.
We closed the meeting with the
4-H motto.
Swinging
Stitchers
The fifth meeting of the Kairshea
Swinging—Sfitchers was held at the
home of Mrs. lialdenby on October
,
3' at 4.30 p.m.
We opened our meeting with the
pledge. Debbie Allan read the
minutes of.the last ,meeting. Our
roll call was "Name our free choice
article". It was answered by 'all
'members.
Cheryl explained the satin stitch
and the• sheaf stitch. Mrs.
Haldenby read the History of
embroidery.

WHITECHURCH NEWS
Whitechurch 4-H club held their
first meeting at the home of leader
Mrs. Archie Purdon. The other
leader is Mrs. Walter Elliott. The
meeting 'was opened by Mrs.
Purdon with all repeating the 4-H
pledge.
The election of officers. were
president, Wendy Kay; 1st vice,
Lori Purdon; press reporter, Clara
Milligan.
The roll call was answered by 5.
It was decided to have the meetings
Wednesday evening. The discus-
sion included the needs of the club
members - record book, embroid-
ery and applique work box. The
colors selected are from the colour
wheel, colour • harmony for our
sampler. We learned the stitches
for articbs suitable for fabrics.
Home assignments. - to have
our boxes 'ready including material
and thread..
The repeating of the 4-H Creed
closed the meeting. '
Baking Belles
The St. Helens Baking Belles
held their 4th meeting on 'Tuesday,
September 30 at St. Helens Hall.
There was a short discussion on
convenience yeast products such a
pizza, frozen bread or rolls• you just
bake.
A food guide- for health was
discussed. We found the foods that
we should eat - milk, fruit,
vegetables, bread and cereals,
meat and fish and Vitamin D.
Breads and cereals contain less
protein than the milk or' meat
groups and should be combined
with one or more of these in our
meals - cheese sandwich. The red
meats, liver, kidneys and heart
supply 'iron but poultry and fish
$500' WINNER
Bryan Boyle, 22-year-old son of
Mr. and Mrs. Francis Boyle of
Huron Township, was the winner of
$500 in a draw at the International
Plowing Match.
Bryan, who is in his 4th year in
Agricultural Science at University
of Guelph, had the choice of the
have less iron than the red meats.
The leaders demonstrated sweet
doughs for rolls and buns.
The meeting closed with the 4-H
Creed.,
Doo-Nuts
The Dungannon Doonuts met at
the home of Mrs. Bev, Maclnnes for
their 5th meeting which opened
with the 4-H pledge.. All nine
members were present to answer,
the roll call which was to bring the
rolls made 'for home activity..
Judy. Godfrey read the minutes.
Press :reporter and secretary, for
this week is Elaine Stewart.
Discussion was on the characteris-
tics of a good loaf of bread.
Members judged each others rolls
$500 or a 1000 lb. steer. Bryan took
the money.
He is pictured, on the left, being
presented by Anson Ruttan, man-
ager of the Fordwich Feed Mill.
The free draw. was 'sponsored by
Martin Feed Mills of Elmira,
owners of the Fordwich Mill.
and some made at a previous
meeting.
For demonstration everyone par-
ticipated in making 'barbecue
hamburger stacks, which made a
delicious snack with the rolls.
After this lunch the meeting
adjourned. The next meeting is at
the home of Mrs. Donna Young on
October 8 at 7 p.m.
Snappy Stitchers
The fifth meeting was held on
Monday. October 6 at 7.15p.m. at
the home of Johanna Van Diepen :
Wendy 'Hamilton opened the
meeting with the 4-H pledge. All
the members answered the roll
call. Donna Elphick read the
minutes which were correct as
read. The next meeting will be
held on Monday, October 13 at 7.15
at the home of Kendra Elphick.
Mrs. Hamilton discussed a
Historical Outline of Embroidery.
The Review of • Colour and Design
for the Free Choice Article was
discussed by Mrs. Elphick.
Both leaders demonstrated the
Satin Stitch and the Sheaf Filling.
Stitch. They also demonstrated
how to make a Twisted Cord.
In our group work we worked on
the Satin. Stitch, the Sheaf Filling
Stitch and the Designs for the Free
Choice Article. ,
We closed the meeting with the
4-H Motto.
