Announce Seven Ontario Scholars From F.E. Madill

Seven students from last
spring's Grade 13 class at F. E.
Madill Secondary School in Wing-
ham, who were recommended as.
Ontario Scholars by the school for
achievement in the 1974-75 school
term, have been confirmed by the
Ministry of Education. To qualify
as an Ontario Scholar, a student
must' obtain an 80% average in a
minimum of six .grade 13 credits.
Each student receives a cash award
of $100.

Napal Dew, three-year-old race-
horse, owned and driven by
Kenneth W. Houston, Holyrood,
was again in the winner circle at
Sudbury Downs, on • Saturday.,
October 4th, winning in 2.05 2.'
The purse was for $6000.
This is the final event of Labatt,'
Ontario Sires Stake and Ken was
presented with an engraved gold
wrist watch as an added bonus.

the Herzing Institute in Toronto
studying data processing and
computer programing. Brad' is at
FariShawe College in London in his
first year in' business 'and Com-
inerce. Bill is in his first year in the
civil engineering course in technol-
ogy at Fanshawe in' London.
Marion Johnstone, Lucknow, has
commenced a two-year course at
Centralia College in Food Service
Management.' Her brother, Bruce
Johnstone, has returned for 'his
second year in Science at Western
University, 'London. They are
daughter and son of Mr. and Mrs
Gordon Johnstone, Lucknow.
RENE CASKANETTE
son of Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur
Caskanette of R. R. 3 Walkerton, is
presently furthering his education
at the University of Waterloo.

The Frank Riegling family of
Ashfield will be 'eating squash for
quite a few weeks to come.
Part of the Riegling. squash crop
' was a Banana Squash, 28 inches in
length and weighing 41 lbs.
/Frank says it is the first time they
have grown this variety which is
shaped somewhat like a banana
and has the same outside colour-
ing.
$30,000.00. As well, around
$700.00 was sent to the Bible
Society from the Church Service
offering.

making the Reunion such a

The Lucknow and District Lions
Club played their part in the
Olympathon 75 ten-Mile walk on
Saturday.
Perfect weather prevailed for the
event which was a co.-operative
Lions Club project across Canada.
Half of .the money raised went to
assist Canadian athletes training
for the Olympics. The remaining
half was retained by local clubs for
service work in the community.
Fine sunny, warm weather,' not
always the good fortune , of Fall
Plowing Matches, favoured the
Bruce County Plowing Match held
on the farm ofibuncan Campbell,
,on No. 9 highway east of Kinloss,
on Saturday.

The total amount 'of money
pledged in Saturday's Walkathon
was $2400, half of which will be
retained fer local service work. 135
walkers participated. First to
complete the 10. miles were Ted
Johnson, Pat Murray, Ron John-
son, Rick Conley and Brian Arnold
in 2 hours and 10 minutes.
The walk route started at the
arena, went 2 1/2 miles west on
highway 86, 2 1/2 miles north into .

4th of Kinloss and 2% miles south
on the Lucknow-Holyrood road,
ending at the arena.
Soft drinks, water and apples
were provided along • the parade
route, with hamburgers and 'hot
dogs at the finish of the route. The
last of the walkers, who were later
starters, arrived at the finish point
about 1.30 p.m.
Rick Jardine was chairman of
Saturday's event.
A large crowd attended The final
meeting of . the Ripley, Huron
Reunion 75 committee. After
viewing many good slides of .the
parade and various , events of the
August 1-4 week end, Mrs. John C.
MacDonald presented the financial
statement. ' The balance on hand
Saturday was $26,243.00, which
will be turned over to the Complex
committee. Bob Courtney and the
Historical. Committee still have a
number of History Books to sell,
and when these are all sold, the
final figure should -reach
Shows Slides To
Town and Country
On Tuesday evening of last
week, the Town and . Country Club ,
welcomed Rev. Doug "Kaufman,
minister of ' Lucknow United
Church, who was introduced by
Harvey Webster.
Mr. Kaufman showed slides of
the many Western Towns in which
he had lived and ministered before
coming to Lucknow. His talk was
made very interesting showing all
facets of the west-wide spaces,
rivers, mountains; as well as
churches, stores and senior citizens
homes.
He was thanked by' P. A.
Murray, after which euchre was
played until lunch time.
