Their daughter .Kathy stopped over in Regina, Saskatch- ewan. on a trip to the West Coast. Also spending the week end at home was Bonnie Boyle of Hamil- ton, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Francis Boyle. Mrs. Ed Farrell of Kincardine is visiting with Mr. and Mrs. Francis Boyle and family. Mr. 'and Mrs. Ray Stanley, Valerie, Heather, Julie and Jennif- er spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Earl Elliott and Ian. Visiting with Mr. and Mrs. Victor Gawley on Sunday were Mr. and Mrs. Dwayne preig and girls of Elmira and Mr. and Mts. Barry Johnston and Lyndon. Mr. and Mrs. Paul Greenwood and son visited on Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Murray Leinke of Ayton. Spending a few days with Mr. and Mrs. Norval Stanley is granddaughter Jorie Helm (Art Helm) of Tiverton. Mr. and Mrs. Victor Gawley and chalmers, C.0 C. WHITECHURCH NEWS Chalmers C.O.C. met on Sunday in the Sunday School room during church service. 'The president, Donald de Boer, presided and gave the call to worship, What is' the Church. The scripture, Psalm 105: 1-7, was read by David Ross. ' Clara Milligan led in prayer. The minutes were read by the secret- ary, Vicki Scott. She also called the roll which was answered by 18 naming a grain mentioned in the Bible. The C.O.C. are going to sell church calendars. The offering was received 'by Michael Irwin and dedicated by Faye Irwin. The birthday ' calendar was Marked. The Juniors, acted' 'the play, The Herald is .Mine. Mrs. Purdon gave the Junior story, God Is Here- Mrs. Simpson gave the story, The Hector, from • the • Mission Study Book. Fry in Goderich_ on Tuesday afternoon, September 23. The theme' of the meeting was Stumbling Block and Stepping Stones. The meeting opened with a hymn, All the way my Saviotir leads; followed with scripture . by Mrs. J. Hildebrand. Mrs. ,Wm. Hardy read the meditation followed with prayer and a poem "Look up:'. A hymn was sung.' Mrs. J. Leddy gave a history of Donny- brook Church going back to the Methodist 'Mission from Goderich which was formed in 1833. In 1855 the work was divided and the Wawanosh Mission was , formed with 18 preaching places establish- ed. In 1856 the first services were held at Mr. Craig's. In 1860 the log church, "which they called Craig's church',', was built at Donnybrook. In 1880 the second church was built at Donnybrook for the price • of, $1000.00. _ In 1.881 the name "Craig's Church" was changed to Donnybrook, with Auburn and Westfield joining the charge. The church was remodelled in 1909 with a basement and choir/ loft added. Union came in 1925 from Methodist to United. Westfield left the Auburn and Donnybrook charge in '1968. Mrs. Harina le,d the business part' of the meeting. Mr. Fry showed slides of their trip to the Agawa Canyon which was enjoyed by all. Mrs. T. Armstrong read a poein "Sharing". A hymn, "Blessed assurance" was sung. Mrs. Wm. Hardy gave the closing prayer. A, social time was enjoyed with Mrs. J. Leddy and Mrs. S. Chamney assisting Mrs. A. Fry. Donnybrook anniversary services will take place on Sunday, October 12th at 11.00 a.m. Rev. Ure Stewart, who is well-knoWn to all on this charge, will be guest speaker. Mrs. Earl Elliott returned home Wednesday evening from a bus tour of the East Coast. Included in the trip were visits to the provinces of New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and Cape Breton Island. They report having a lovely time unfortunately marred on the return journey by the sudden death of a fellow traveller in Yarmouth, Nova Scotia.
