On Guide Trip
During 1975 Girl Guides of
Canada are celebrating their 65th
birthday. Brownies and Guides
across Canada have participated in
this, by being involved in a project
called Guiding on the More. The
object is to make Guiding more
visible in the community, and
-through--travellto-learn_more.ahotit_
Canada, and Canadians.
This summer groups. of Guides
criss-crossed Canada. Lorna Boyle
of Lucknow was one of the girls
chosen from Beaver Division. to
take part in Guiding on the Move.
On Tuesday, August 12 .Lorna
travelled to Midland where she was
billeted in a Guide's home. A
barbeque was enjoyed that evening
after touring local attractions.
Wednesday the Guides travelled
and moved into Margaret Adison
Hall at York University. On
Thursday they were taken on a
guided tour of Toronto, after Which
they enjoyed a picnic which was
down by the waterfront. The
Toronto Guidps then took smaller
groups of visiting Guides to various
activities such as swimming and
shopping. That evening there was
a huge campfire at Nathan Phillips
Square 'at which the Lieutenant'
Governor was 'present. "
The big climax of the event .was a'
mammoth parade at the C.N.E.
grounds on Friday. On Saturday
Lorna returned to her home with
lots of new songs and many new
friends°. ' .
Lorna is the fourteen year old
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jim
Boyle of Lucknow.

Her waist-length veil trimmed with
old English lace fell from a Juliet
cap. She carried a bouquet of pink
sweetheart roses,, white carnations
and white baby's breath.
Miss Janice Reeves of Ripley,
sister of th6 bride, was maid of
honour. Bridesmaid was Miss.
Nancy McGuire of . R. R. 5
Lucknow, sister of the. groom.
Both wore dresses of pink, Swiss
dot,' white picture hats and
wristlets of pink roses and white
carnations.
Groomsman was Rick' Smith.
Jim Black was usher. Both are of
R. R. I Ripley.
A dinner followed in the Ripley
Legion Hall. '
The bride's mother, Mrs. Reev-
es, received the guests wearing a
floor-length gown of pink and gold
floral nylon over polyester and
corsage of yellow roses..
She was assisted by the groom's
mother, Mrs. McGuire, wearing a
floor-length gown of blue polyester
double knit.
A reception followed in the
Ripley Town Hall.
The couple will .reside at R. R. 5
LucknoW.
Brookside
Happenings
School is in progress . again for
the 1975-76 year with a few
changes.
Our new principal this year is
Gary Jewitt of Clinton and our new
French teacher, Miss Vianne
Trezise, formerly of Sundridge.
Welcome to Brookside!
This year we have with us all the
students from the North Ashfield
School. We would also like to
welcome them to our school.
One class of Grade 6 students
had' to use the gymnasium as a
classroom until a new portable
arrived last Friday.

Pork Barbeque
An enthusiastic crowd of 1233
pork lovers partook of the annual
Pork Barbeque and dance at the
Seaforth arena. Hundreds more
had to be turned away 'because 'the
capacity of the barbeque operated
by. Leo, Kroonen of Dublin was
strained to the limit.
After the delicious meal, compet-
ing for the honour to be Huron
County. Pork Hostess 1975 took
place.
Six lovely girls vied for the title.
After an interview with the three
judges, who quizzed them on their
knowledge of pork cooking and
table display, each spoke .for two
minutes On the merits of pork. The'
judges were Mrs. Robert McKin-
ley, Mrs. Murray Gaunt. and Mrs.
John Riddell, wives of Huron's
three representatives in Parlia-
ments, and they awarded the
Hostess crown to 'Miss Cathy
Madill of Blyth. Second place was
taken by Miss Judy Miller of
Dashwood. The runners up were
Miss ,Barbara Miller of Exeter,
Miss Glenna Ellis of Clinton, Miss
Teresa Ondrejicka of Exeter and
Miss VanDoornik of Seaforth.
Frank Bainton, President of
Bainton's Old Mill in Blyth,
presented the winner with a
beautiful suede pigskin jacket. The
other contestants received a
cheque from the Huron Pork
Producers Association who spon-
sored the event. Miss Brenda
Moore of Goderich Township, who .
was 1974 hostess, crowned the' new
hostess and spoke .briefly of her
experiences during, the year when
she had the title.
