Orah, a member of the Legion and veteran with service in 'the R.C.A.F. in. both World Wars, obtained this 4et of twelve flags in Thornton. They are approximately .18 by 36 inches in size, made of nylon. Each is attached to a small rod about four feet in length. Bob Love had fastened the metal holders along the facing 'boards at the north or front end and the east side of the Legion Hall. For putting up the flags Bob got on the roof of the• hall and placed them in order starting with the provincial 'flag of New- foundland. Pictures were taken by Fran Wylds and by Bill Tranter for Orah. The flags will/ add greatly to the appearance of the hall for the coming reunion. Later hit son Bill and family, Dr. and Mrs. William Crawford and son of Winnipeg, and his, .wife Marie and Mrs. Norma McLennan were 'up to the Legion Hall to see the flags. * * * *' * * Last Friday, July '11, John Dahmer Sr. of Kincardine 'celebrat- ed his 92nd birthday. Before retiring to Kincardine he 'farmed -- east of Kincardine on the road now known as the Dahmer, sideroad. And before coming here in April, 1919 he , and his wife owned and . lived on the farm east Of the Farrell place where Mr. and Mrs. Jim W. Brooks, now are. Oliver Smith now owns this farm and just 'a few years ago moved the barn and put it up on a new cement wall. John is looking forward to the Ripley Huron Reunion this year as he can name everyone vAlho lived on each farm from Highway 21 east to the Lucknow gravel along,the 4th, 6th. and 8th concessions in Huron and Kinhiss, as well as other places in the area back in 1919. He came to know these people when he worked with' the late John Robert- son of Ripley at framing barns. Ripley-Huron folks send . along congratulations and best wishes on this happy occasion. * * * * * Henry Wardell, son' of Mr.. and Mrs. Leslie Wardell, concession: 4, Huron Township, is a member of the Hanover Air Cadets and. is at present with them at the Trenton base,' Camp Asra on a 3. week summer training program. They left Hanover on Sunday, July' 6 so by now the course will be past the halfway point. The Lawrie James Grocery store s. the main street in Ripley has had a major interior renovation. On the job. are Sandy MacCharles of Olivet, Jerry Huber of Ripley and Sim Huber of Lurgan. In this renovation the cold storage lockers and the room enclosing them has been removed. In its place -new shelving has been installed for the groceries. Along the south side of the store new restaurant facilities are to be installed according to plans. -Miss Helen: Wardell of Kitchener recently visited with her. parats Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Wardell and family. * * * * * * Arthur Ashton of Bright and formerly of the Ripley area, is a patient in St. Marys, Hospital in Kitchener for treatment following a heart seizure. This summer the albino sparrow was again , sighted at different times at the farm of Mr. and Mrs. Lester Farrell on concession 12 west in Huron Township. Years ago a similar albino sparrow was around the. Ripley elevator and Ripley chopping mill. * * * * * * LaSt Sunday afternoon Mrs. Grace Murray, along with Mrs. Effie Sutherland, Miss Katherine Murray, Miss Florence MacDon- ald, Mrs. Irene Griffith and Mrs. Fran Wylds.went to Stratford to see the play "The Two Gentlemen of Wilmer and Marion McLeod of Kincardine visited on Sqnday afternoon with Joe and Mary Fludder, Pat and Cathy at .their home on Malcolm Street in Ripley. * * • .* * * After participating in the. Kin- cardine Town and Country Days last 'Saturday, the committee of the Ripley Craft Show are satisfied that they are going to have a crowd at their display on August 1st and 2nd as many enquiries were made about Crafts and food to he had in Ripley during the Reunion. This committee sponsored an afghan competition in Kincardine and were pleased to have 35 entries from Kincardine, Ripley, Lucknow, Wingham, Goderich and surround- ing areas. A total of sixty dollars was paid in prizes. Two of the prize winners were Mrs. Judy Snobelen of the 4th concession west in Huron Township and. Mrs. Alex Purvis of .Lucknow. Winner of the lucky draw for a beautiful hair pin lace afghan was Mrs. Blanche Black- Stock of Petrolia. * * * * * The late television news on Saturday showed pictures of the 12th of July celebration in Clinton. Among those shown in the big Orange parade was Chester Em- merton of the Amberley area of Huron Township. * * * • * * * Mrs. Violet MacKenzie of Rip- ley, Mrs. Rhoda MacKenzie of Ashfield, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Lohnes of Ripley arrived home Friday evening after a 22 day bus tour across Canada and Northern United States, covering over 650.0 miles passing such places as Winnipeg, Regina, Edmonton, Jas- per, Vancouver, Victoria, back to Banff, Calgary Stampede, Yellow Stone Park, through Wyoming, South Dakota, Minnesota, Battle Creek and. back to Kitchener. • '* * * * '* * Mr. and -Mrs. Clarence McGilliv- ray, of.Nev York city are now holidaying here until after the Ripley-Huron Reunion. Mr. Mc- Gillivray was raised on the family home now owned by Mr. and Mrs. Doug Lackey, concession 4, Huron Township. He started his banking career in WEDNESDAY, JULY 16,1 the Ripley Royal Bank and con ued in several Ontario cent before going to Detroit and t New 'York city where he now li retired. While in this area they Visiting with his nieces, Mar' Jean and Tillie, namely Mr.. Mrs. Oliver MacCharles of Lochalsh area, Mr. and Mrs. LI Wylds in Ripley and Mrs. Ti Smith in Kincardine.
