Local Government Study
hiblic Meeting Today
Lumping the town of Kincardine,
the villages of Ripley, Tiverton and
Lucknow, and the: townships of
Kincardine, Huron and Kinloss
into one municipality is one
recommendation contained in a
summary of preliminary recom-
mendations for restructuring Bruce
County.
The summary is of a report: by
London planner Ed Cornies who
has been studying restructuring"' in
the cEunty. The summary was
unveced (recently at Bruce County
Council and discussed in a closed
session.
•A dropsin centre at Lucknow
Town Hall is being held today, July
16th from 3 "to 6 p.m. to discuss the
proposal with any interested
people. At 8 p.m. there will' be a
preSentation followed by a question
and 'answer period.
In the summary Mr. Cornies
states, "A detailed appreciation .of
my preliminary recointhendations
can only be obtained by, reading the'
report , '
His second recommendation is
that the present 31 townships,.
towns and villages in the county, be
changed to six municipal units.
The first recommendation is that
Bruce County be retained as a local
government.
In all, the summary contains 24
recommendations which include
the division of powers between
local government and a restructur-
' ed county government.
FURTHER THOUGHTS
Following initial public and
council reaction, to the recommend-
ation of I./educing the 31. municipal-
ities to _16 units of , government, a
second possibility came out of
Meetings held earlier this week. It
would reduce Bruce to 13 units of
government, as opposed to the
suggested 6.
It suggests Lucknow, Kinloss, .
Huron and Ripley as one unit of
government with the town of.
Kincardine as a single governing
board. •
