RECREATION .
CONTINUED FROM PAGE 1
is now a very busy place every 'day
of the week.
500 children have registered for
swimming lessons in July and
August with more coming in.
Adult Swimming classes started
on July 7th and will continue each
Monday,. Tuesday and Thursday
from 7-8 p.m.
Mothers and tots swimming is
scheduled each Saturday morning.
Registration can be made • at the
pool' anytime.
Adult swimming will be held on
Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday
from 8-9, if enough interest • is
shown. Water sports can be
arranged in this time schedule.
The committee regret that season's
tickets were not available as soon
as had been hoped for.
Lucknow can take pride in the
fact that the pool here has a
considerably lower rate than any
other pool in the area.
Roller skating is now .in full
swing and after some hasty
preparations, the first night was
June 21st. •
Each Wednesday,, Friday and
Sunday night the younger sjtaters '
can skate from 7-8.30 p.m. and the
teenagers' and those who feel like
teenagers can skate from 8.30-
11.00. To date, good turnouts have
been repertedi. At a recent arena
board meeting, it was decided to '
turn the roller skating program
over to the recreation department.
The summer . ball program is
moving along with its usual ups
and downs, with the Pee Wees,
Bantams and Midgets winning
approximately 50% of their games.
The Intermediates 'have an 80%.
winning record, ,due to a couple of
losses that managethent does not
care to discuss, as the manager has
boasted that his team would only
lose three games before playoffs.
In the playground department,
with the assistance of a' govern-
inent grant, a progressive arts and
crafts ,program is being offered to
all boys and girls each week day
beginning at 9.00 a.m. until noon
and Saturday morning, ball 'for
those.not already playing organized
ball.
Playground instructors have
renovated the ski chalet, and use
the 'building for storage and the
playground program. However
some midnight vandals took pleas-
tire inbreaking down the door. The
recreation department has, secured
a night watch over this particular
area • and anyone caught will be
dealt' with.
The recreation department
would be pleased to hear of other
programs' thato might be' possible
and these who might be interested '
in spearheading new programs.
Constructive criticism is welcome.
