Arson Suspected
In Cottage Fire
At Amberley Beach
Lucknow Fire Department an=
swered a call to. Amberley Beach
about 10.45 p.m. Friday. A' flash
fire had occurred at the cottage of
Norman Knapp of ListOwel. By the
time firemen had arrived, residents
of neighbouring cottages, who
noticed the fire, had extinguished
the blaze. The cottage 'is located
about % mile south of Highway 86',
on the lakefront.
.Mr. Knapp was not at his cottage
at, the time, and had it not been for
the prompt action of his neigh-
bours, the cottage would have been
destroyed, and possibly, others in
the heavily wooded area.:
Fire Chief George Whitby of
Lucknow and members of the fire
department found evidence of
arson and called the Ontarib
Provincial Police to investigate. - It
is believed that an inflammable
substance was sprinkled across the
back and around the side of the
'cottage and ignited. All the fire
was on the outside 'of the building.
An odour of fuel oil was prevalent
following the fire being extinguish-
ed. No damage was done to the
interior of the building, thanks to
the quick. action of the neighbour-
ing beach residents.
A representative of the Fire
Marshall's office investigated the
incident.
