Last Sunday afternoon, the
funeral service was held at the Ross
MacLennan Funeral Home in
Kincardine for Mrs. Calvert Finlay,
followed by interment in Kincard-
ine Cemetery. . The former Sadie
Coiling of the 4th concession of
Huron Township, she was 71 years
of age. Surviving are her two sons;
Carl and Ronald and daughter June
(Mrs. Taylor of B.C.); 'eight
grandchildren; two sisters, one
Mrs. Minnie (Alex) MacTavish of
the Walkerton area and formerly of
Smoky Hollow on the 2nd conces-
sion of Huron Township, and one
brother John Coiling of Ripley._
The late Mr. and Mrs. Calvert
Finlay owned and operated the,
farm where Mr. and Mrs. Jim
Harris now live on the 12tfi
concession west before they retired
to Kincardine. For many years
Mrs-Finlay was a capable nurse in
the Kincardine Hospital. She is
also survived by /several nephews
and nieces of thiS area. To all the
family, sympathy is extended.

The 25th wedding anniversary of
Mr. and Mrs. Joe Fludder was
celebrated at their Malcolm Street
home in Ripley last Saturday
evening with immediate family
members, in attendance.
Mr. and Mrs. Jake Hooisma and
young daughter Sheila of Kitchener
visited with his family, ' Mr. and
Mrs. Chas, Hooisma and Jimmy,
also with his brother John and with
Mr, and Mrs. Don Fludder, Tammy and Jason in Ripley last weekend.
Further levelling and top soil
covering of the site of the former
.Royal Hotel is being carried out by
men using the Bill Kempton
equipment from Amberley. In charge of the work is Donnie.
Peterbaugh for the village.
The large sugar maple in Gore
Park, which has been dead for
some time, was sawed down last,
Wednesday, evening by Keith
Carter of concession 10, Huron.
Assisting were his father Jack
Carter of Ripley and family
members, along with Don Peter-
baugh. Liter Don and Doug
Peterbaugh drew the brush away.
On Saturday forenoon, Johnny
Smith and Bobby Robertson, with
their chain saws, did further
cutting and piling. The tree died
gradually over the past five or six
years being attacked by the "die
back" disease which is killing
many sugar maples.

Mrs.-Donna Reid of Stroud was a
week end visitor 'with her mother
Mrs. Arvilla Orr and her sister'
Miss Pat Mead at their Malcolm
Street home in Ripley, as well as
other family members in the area.
Last Thursday noon the ten
members of the Ripley High School
4-H' Forestry Club visited Ardill
Mason's woodworking shop and
tried their hands at wood turning
on his lathe. ,Later Ardill showed
them different samples of his own
worleand,named the different;kinds
of wood used. -In the club were Bob
Campbell, Doug Peterbaugh, Wray
Thompson, Greg Rouse, Mark
Stewart, John Drzazga, Paul Court-
ney, Mike Rowland, Mark Humph-
rey, Tint Palmer and Erroll 'Lunde.
Mrs. Rose Jewel recently sold
her home on the mainstreet east in
Ripley.

Noticed visiting in Ripley this
past week end was Colin MacLen-
nan of Agincourt.
The annual spring meeting for
the Agricultural Societies (fall fair
boards) in Bruce and Grey Count-
ies, which is District No. 10, will be
held in the community centre, at
Elmwood according to a letter just
received from Allan Wedow , of
Hanover who, must be 'the secret-
ary-treasurer for this district.
Meeting will be on Wednesday,
June 4th.

On Monday evening of last week,
the Ripley Agricultural Society was
held with president. Morley Scott of
Purple Grove in charge. Various
routine matters were dealt with,
Seven, girls received' County
Honour certificates at the 4-H Club
Achievement Day at LucknoVv. The
awards are for the completion of six
4-H Club projects.

On Saturday, a shingling bee
was held at the home of. Mr. and
Mrs. Lloyd Irwin and as a result
their house now has a new roof.

With ideal weather last Satur-
day evening and through Sunday,
and the large number of cars driven
by young people, the new four'way
stop at the main intersection in
Ripley proved a real boon to those
devoted to the 'sport of tire
squealing. And the number is
increasing all the time.
Mrs. Frank Chapman of Chilli-
wack, B.C. and Mrs. Del Carlow of
70 Mile House, B.C. are visiting
with their cousin Mrs. Ellis
Gossell. It is fifty years since Mrs.
Chapman visited with relatives
here and it is Mrs. Carlow's first
visit. Their mother is the sister of

Osborne, spent the long weekend
visiting relatives in Ann Arbor, Flat
Rock and Grand Rapids in Michi-
gan and Sarnia and Windsor in
Ontario.

spent the past week with her
grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Gord-
on' Lyons.
BRIDAL SHOWER
On' Wednesday evening, :Miss
JoAnn Seiker was guest of honour
at a bridal shower in St. Helens
Hall. Janice Gaunt played several
selections as the ladies gathered.'
Mrs. Rick Humphrey was chair-
lady. , Contests were conducted . by
Mrs. Witn de Boer and Mrs.
Harold Gaunt while readings were
given by Mrs. Ernest Gaunt and
Mrs. Bob Aitchison. Mrs. Tom
Pritchard played a piano solo.
Assisting the bride in opening
her gifts were Mrs. Wayne Todd
and Gail MacPherson. JoAnn
thanked the ladies and lunch was
served at the conclusion of the
evening.
