WEDNESDAY, MAY 14, 1975
The Bruce County Board of
Education has approved a budget
of alMpst $16 million fot 1975,
representing a 19.4 per cent
increase over last year. The budget
. is $15,994,028.
,-:•Abottt 70 per cent of the budget
will tome from Ontario Govern-
.ment grants and about 22 per cent
from taipayers. The remainder
will come from other sources such
as tuition and municipalities.
•s, Increased enrolment . in the
system, ,due mainly to contruction
at the- Douglas Point nuclear
generating plant, is reflected in
various portions of the budget.
For instance, tranportation costs
have increased, $300,000 to $1.6
million. This includes salary
increases granted to operators
earlier this year and additional
buses. •
Fringe benefits will cost an extra
$100,000 due to teachers' unem-
ployment insurance benefits and
group insurance being increased.
Instruction, which includes salar-
ies, supplies and equipment, and
the hiring of an additional 23
teachers to accommodate increased
enrolment of 250 students, will cost
$1.5 million more this 'year. The
total bill will be $9 million. -
Administration will cost an
additional $38,000•to $266,370 due
to a $14,000 increase in honorar-
, iums paid trustees, a 20-per-cent
increase in postage, insurance,
workmen's compensation, travel
allowances and computer services.
The debenture debt payment and
bank charges will cost about
$500,000 more mainly because of
new schools at Kincardine and Port
Elgin.
The operations part of the
budget has also increased $135,000
to $1.1 million reflecting wage
hikes for custodians, more portable
classrooms and increased hydro
costs.
In other business, Thomas
Lambert gave a progress report on
the new elementary school at the
south end of ICincardine. Construc-
tion began March 24 and the
