Ripley's Alive
In 75
By Elaine Pollock
Plans are to have a 'Mammoth
Parade on Saturday, August 2 at
12.30 p.m. A special feature of this
reunion parade is the class for
family or clan floats.
Although there are no prizes for
bicycles and tricycles,, we are
encouraging children, as well as
adults, to participate in the parade.
Maybe you young folks can spark
the idea to get a family float ready.:
Get your family together and let us
know that you are "Alive in 75".
In addition to the family floats,
there are classes in the following
categories: commercial, humorous,
fancy, musical and historical.
There are also classes for clowns,
antique vehicles and fancy saddle ,
horses.
We hope you will' clip and use the
Parade Entry form found elsewhere
in this paper. Names and
addresses are still needed for the
invitation list, so get in touch with
Mrs. Wallace Pollock. See you at
the Ripley Huron 'Reunion, August
1, 2, 3 and 4.
LEAD. THE WAY
Ideal parents forget all the
lectures—they build character in
their children by example.
Ontario Hydro has warned kite
flying enthusiasts that carelessness,
could cut short their summer
recreation. .
Eyery year many young people
are injured, Sometimes fatally,
when model airplanes and kites
become entangled in 'power lines.
The ageless sport of kite flying,
popular with kids of all ages,
requires that certain rules, be,
employed. If fun is to last, rules
must be obeyed. Electricity makes
a demanding referee.
Because electricity will take the
shortest route to the ground, metal
struts, metallic wire, Wire-reitiforc-
• • `-",c, and even damp string will ea suit"
act as a conductor.
The golden rule of kite flying is
keep away from power lines. The
best places for kites and kite flyers
are the wide open spaces;
