Mrs. Omar Brooks presided at the May meeting of the Women's Missionary Society of the Lucknow Presbyterian Church., • Following the opening hymn and roll call, 'the *butes of last meeting were read and approved. Nineteen ladies answered the roll Call with a verse of scripture. In the absence of the supply secretary, the treasurer reported the supply money over the allocation. Mrs. Morgan Henderson gave: the bible study. "Ye are my witnesses", emphasizing the duty of Christians to' witness. Mrs. Jas. Little gave the mission study on Missions, Educational and Medical, in India, Taiwan, and Africa, noting, that there is more opposition to the teaching of Christianity in these countries to day, than at the time the missions were begun. In Canada the W.M.S. supports school houses and hospitals. Following the offering, Mrs. Brooks, gave the offertory prayer. The treasurer announced that $28.00 had been collected for the kindergarten in Japan. Mrs. Henderson and Mrs. Little offered to 'do the visiting for May and June. Mrs. Robt. Reid gave the Glad Tidings review. Mrs. Noble Johnston and Miss Sadie Johnston offered prayers for the prayer circle. The secretary read the correspondence,' a letter of thanks from Mrs. Campbell, Wingham. After the singing, of the closing, hymn, Mrs. Sherwood closed the, meeting with prayer. Mrs.. Francis Boyle was hostess to the May meeting of Ripley St. ' Andrew's United Church Women on May 6th. Mrs. Burton Collins, convener of program, led in the worship service. She took Paul's talk on love from Philippians as her theme. Mrs. Wallace Pollock led in prayer. Mrs. Wm. Arnold led in the study of Mission Outreach and especially as it pertained to Korea. She told of how mission work has changed so that people with skills go to areas as requested by people in that area. Members read excerpts to show what life in Korea had been in years past and present .conditions in South Korea and the struggle to maintain Christian faith and live as Christians in a land led by a dictator.. Members answered the roll call by telling something of Korea, so that members felt they understood more of Korea and its problems. Dr. Hiscup Kim gave some of his impressions of people in Western lands - our pre-occupa- tion with technology, efficiency and materialism, and made members evaluate our system. Bonnie, Heather and Corinne Boyle sang a delightful musical number which corresponded with the topic, "Count your blessings". Miss Christine Robertson led in the business period. There will be a sale at the June meeting. This may be any article and proceeds will be used to help with supply work. Members are reminded to continue collecting stamps for the Leper work and used eye glasses.' St. Andrew's Anniversary will be vn net 1 tat. A al. Lunch was served by Mrs. Boyle and her daughters and closed an evening of good fellow-ship. Speaks Of Visit, To Holy Land. Unit 3 oflucknow United Church Women met at the home of Mrs. Wilbur,Brown on Tuesday, May 6, with 22 members and 4 visitors present. Mrs. Glen Walden welcomed all and read a short poem 'As We Sow'. Hymn 574 was sung, followed by the Lord's prayer, repeated in unison. The roll call was' answered' by naming one responsibility of a U.C.W. mem,. ber. Reports were given by Mrs. Jardine, Mrs. James Ritchie, Mrs. Chas. McDonald and Mrs. Wight- man. Mrs. Walden announced an executive meeting to be held in the church May . 14 at 1.30 p.m. and a workshop in Ripley May 12. Mrs. Chas. McDonald presided for the program and read two poems "The Gift" and "Ballet Dancers". Hymn 21 was sung and Mrs. W. Humphrey led in prayer. The scripture reading,. the Beatitudes, was given by Mrs.. Howald, followed by a reading by Ws. S. Collyer; "How To Grow Old Gracefully' was read by Mrs: McDonald. Hymn 112 was sung and the guest speaker, Mrs. Andrew Gaunt, was introduced by Mrs, McDonald. Mrs. Gaunt showed slides and gave an interesting talk based on her recent trip to the Holy Land: Mrs. Humphrey thanked the speaker and presented her with a gift. A ,'reading, "Spring" was given by Mrs. Bradley and 'the meeting closed with, hymn 115' and prayer by Mrs. Walden. Lunch was served 6y the hostess and the committee in charge. Unit 2 U.C.W. The May meeting of Unit 2, Lucknow United Church Women, was held at the home of Mrs. W. V. Johnston. Mrs. Vernon Hunter opened the meeting with a reading followed by a hymn and prayer. The minutes of the last meeting were read and approved. The 'roll call was answered by 19 members with a housecleaning hint. Mrs. Eldon Henderson gage the treasurer's report. Mrs. Eldon Ritchie read; "Sharing and Giv- ing" on Stewardship. Community visiting and friendship was report- ed by Mrs. Garfield. MacDonald. Mrs. Andrew Ritchie reported on supply. Flannelette quilt blocks 20" x 18" are needed. Any clothes are to be taken to the Salvation Army in Wingham and not to the church. Members are asked to take a tea towel to the next meeting, Arrangements were made by Mrs. Gordon Kirkland for supplies and help for the Girl Guide banquet on • May 15. Other catering needs are to be arranged later. The general meeting is to be held at Silver Lake on June 10. Mrs. Eldon Ritchie convened the program with a poem, "Spring". The theme was Praise, taken from the Song of Solomon. Hymn 304 was repeated in unison. Mrs. Zetta Henderson read the scripture followed by meditation and prayer by Mrs. Kirkland. Readings were given by Mrs. Andrew Ritchie and Mrs. Ellen Cardis. "Mission Begins with You" was taken by Mrs. Eldon Ritchie. This was on how tourism can create 'Defier relations between the developing countries and Canada. The impressions we leave when visiting these countries is very important. A poem from. Jamaica "Thoughts on' Tourism" was read. The °meeting elZsed with prayer by Mrs. Ritchie and a Bible quiz by Mrs. Kirkland. South Kinloss The May meeting of South ICinloss Presbyterian Women's Missionary Society was held at the home of Mrs. Ira ,Dickie, 18 members present. The vice president Mrs.' Lome Sparks pres- ided and opened the meeting with a scripture verse, followed by, the singing of a hymn "The Lord's my Shepherd". Mrs. Douglas Graham gave a synopsis on the May issue of the Glad Tidings, followed by the roll callanswered with averse with the word "Love". Mrs. Evan Keith gave a reading entitled, "Your Prayer God's Opportunity". 'The Bible study was taken by Mrs. Alvin Schmidt and Mrs. Harry Lavis, I John, 3, with questions and, answers. The hymn "More love to Thee 0 Christ" was sung. Mrs. Lorne Sparks, delegate to the Presbyterial at Teeswater, -gave an excellent report. The • highlight of that meeting to our Society and Presbyterial members was the presentation of an Honor- ary Life Meinbership to Mrs. Douglas Graham and also the speaker Miss Margaret Kennedy, home, on furlough from India. Mrs., .Philip Steer, Mrs. Allan MacDougall and Mrs. Lloyd Mac- Dougall took part in the Prayer Circle. Mrs. Alvin Schmidt gave a reading "Sharing". The offertory prayer was given by Mrs. Frank MacKenzie. Courtesy remarks by Mrs. Harry Lavis was followed by singing the hymn, "Fountain of mercy, God of love", , and, the closing prayer by Mrs. Ted Collyer and the singing of the Grace. A lunch -was -served by ' the hostess and directors Mrs. Alvin Schmidt and Mrs. Harry Lavis. yoZ Trinity U.C.W. The May meeting of Trinity United Church Women was held in the Church basement on Thursday, May 8, with an attendance of 20 ladies and 6 children. The meeting opened with the singing of hymn 211, God of the farm lands. The Lord's prayer was repeated in unison and the president, Mrs. Charles Wilkins read a' poem, "A . Spring Garden". The roll call was answered with a verse from ProverbS pertaining to the home. Mrs. Janet Cook introduced the devotional part of the meeting, with the theme "A Little More Main Street Religion Would Solve Many Problems." and she read the scripture from Matthew 5, verses 13-16. Hymn 84 was sung, got the whole 'world in His hands, responsive reading followed, and WS. Suzanne Andrew gave a paper on "How to Get Involved". Mrs. Janet Cook s continued the meditation, concluding with "We Can Be Christians On Our Own Main Street. 'Hymn • 301, Oh Master let me walk with Thee was sung and Mrs. Cook led in prayer. Mrs Ella Hackett had a reading Looking For The ,Best In Others". Two thank you notes were read and the business portion of the meeting followed. The, annual garden party is set for June 3. We are to clean the church on May 29. Mrs. Ruth Alton gave the Trinity Tattier, followed by singing hymn 211, God of the farmlands,. and 'Mrs. COok closed the meeting with prayer. We then held Our annual Spring Plant Sale and then 'a dainty lunch was served by the committee its charge. There were 17 members present for the May meeting of Unit 5, Lucknow United Church Women, held in the lime of Mrs. Alex Andrew, The president, Mrs. Charlie Anderson opened , the meeting with a reading "Spring- time". We all, repeated the 23rd Psalm. The -minutes of the last meeting were-read and the roll call was answered by naming your , favourite flower. Mrs. Andrew reported on Supply and Welfare and asked the members to bring a new tea towel to the June meeting. There was also a request for discarded eye glasses. Mrs. Clarence Ritchie read a paper on Stewardship. Mrs. Armstrong Wilson reported. on Community Friendship and Mrs. Russell Button on. Social Functions. Plans were made for the Girl Guide banquet. A letter was read by Mrs. Jack McDonagh from Rev. and Mrs. King of Cape Croker telling of their work on the Reserve. The general meeting will be held on June 12th at Silver Lake Camp. • The devotional part of the meeting was taken by Mrs. Evans Helm who spoke on Stewardship in the church. Prayer by Mrs. Tom Andrew was followed by a scripture reading by Mrs. Arthur Helm. Hymn 394 was sung. Mrs. E. Helm led a panel discussion on Mother's Day with several mothers taking part. The meeting' closed with singing Hymn 330. Lunch was served by the committee in charge. St..Augustine C.VII.L. The Catholic Women's League of St. Augustine met ,Monday evening with 13 members present. Mrs. Neil Stapleton read the correspondence. thank you notes were read from Carol Foran and Christine Staplet/On, who each received 'a rosary and card on their First Communion day. A letter was read concerning the conference which , will be held in London in .May. A group of ladies may attend from this area. Mrs. William Redmond read correspondence from 'parish members, Jim Leddy and Mrs. Mike Foran, who have been in. hospital. Mrs. John Franken mentioned membership dues will be collected during the month of May. A PAGNI MAVIS CVVL Entertain At Pineerest The Catholic Women's League meeting of St. Mary's Church, Lucknow, was held at Pinecrest Manor when the group, visited with some of the patients who had been former members 'of the League in other parishes. The visitors were welcomed by Mr. and Mrs. Newbold, who. • directed them to the dining room where the meeting was held. After a short visit with the patients the meeting was opened by Fr. Dentinger with the League Prayer. The financial report' was given and the correspondence was read and plans discussed ,for summer activities. Fr. Dentinger- was congratulated on his work in designing and renovating the ' church. Mrs. Mary Clare of Kingsbridge was pianist for the afternoon and a. sing song was enjoyed by all. The highlight of the afternoon was the drawing of the lucky ticket which had been sold by ,the league members. Fr. Dentinger was in charge and called do Mrs. Newbo'd and some of the patients to make the draw. The winners were as follows: afghan, Mrs. Wilton, Kitchener; electric grandfather clock, Mrs. Florence Weiss, For- mosa; pillow cases, Mrs. Wilfred Hogan, Goderich; bath towel, Mrs. Peter Chisholm, Lucknow; hand- painted picture, Duane Porter, _Lucknotv. The meeting adjourned after the singing , of the Queen. A vote of thanks to Mr. and. Mrs. Newbold was extended and a social hour followed and the visitors called to see other patients. church cleaning will be held in the morning of May 24th. The ladies to clean the church during June are Mrs. Wm. Redmond' and Mrs. Albert Plasschaert. Mr. and Mrs. hied Stapleton were the auditors for , the books for 1974-75. A joint meeting will be held in Kingsbridge in June. A report will be given of the Provincial Confer- ence, and a plant sale will take place during ,the meeting.
