Fire Shoots From
Phone In Freak
Occurrence
Mr. and Mrs. Spence Irwin of
''Lucknow had an unnerving exper-
ience about a month ago. '
Spence was talking by telephone
to Fred Lanting in Calgary. He
took, the phone away from his ear
momentarily to speak to Mrs. Irwin
who was sitting nearby in the Irwin
home in' Lucknovv.
At that instant, when the phone
was away from his ear, a bolt of
lightning appeared to pass through
the phone and a ball of-fire, which
Spence described as the size of a
goose egg, shot out of the receiver
of the phone about two feet, and
then disintegrated.
Spence returned to the phon
asking Fred if he had noticed
anything at that end, and ,when
Fred replied in the negative,
Spence ended the conversation
and hung up, uncertain if the same
thing, might happen again.
The Irwins said that only one
lightning bolt and one crack of
thunder was noticed by them at the
time.of the freak occurrence. There
was not a storm that evening.
Spence hesitates to think what
might have happened to him- if the
receiver had not momentarily been
away from his head.
