HomeMy WebLinkAboutThe Lucknow Sentinel, 1975-05-07, Page 207, 1975 THE LUCKNOW SENTINEL, LUCKNOW, ONTARIO THAT A flash fire about 3 p.m. on Tuesday of this week caused some damage, to a tractor being repaired at George Stanley's Sunoco Gar- age. The Garage staff had the fire under control when the fire department arrived. Black smoke poured, from the building until the staff snuffed out the blaze by throwing sand on the machine and area around it. THAT A Christnias.Caetus belonging to Joan Robinson, who resides a mile north of Lieknow, has bloomed continually since it hid its first two blooms on November 26th o 1974. The last bloom was on May 4'04 just over five months from the first. THAT The 8entinel is frustrated with reports. of poor- postal delivery of papers around Ontario which come to our attention every week. But it seems that out west they do things up right., Donna Ritchie, daughter of Mr. and' Mrs. Harvey Ritchie, • Highway 86 west, is living and, working at Red. Deer, Alberta. When Donna's mother talked to her by phone on Friday night, she was in the process of reading the current' week's Sentinel. Accord- ing' to Donna, if the Sentinel doesn't arrive in Red Deer on Friday, it usaally comes Monday. Keeping in' mind that newspapers are second class mail, we say to the oft criticized Canada post office, "That's service". THAT WA. Tony (Donna) Johnstone of Lucknow has been appointed manager of the new Becker's Milk Store' in Lucknow which will open in the Joynt Block 'next week. Donna is spending this week , in a. familiarization program at the Becker's store in Wingham. • THAT Patty Lou Irwin, Glenda Jamie- son, Marie and Lisa Peterson canvassed the Village of Lucknow last week in support of Tag Day for the Wingham and District Hospit- al. ST. HELENS Mrs. Fred McQuillin attended the. Officers' Conference of the Women's Institute at Waterloo last week. Sunday visitors with Mrs. Fred McQuillin were Mr. and Mrs. Ivan McQuilllin and family of Kitchener and Mr. and Mrs. William Somers of Elmira. The school band, numbering about 70, presented a varied and pleasing program.. Bandmaster Gordon Cayley. stated that the band is accomplishing much more diffi- cult musk from year to year and that he was extremely 'pleased with their achievenient at- this year's concert. He said the band had mastered 40 to 50 numbers which could. be played at any public appearance. In addition to the finesse shown by the senior band, a further group of about 33 junior baled. members, who started playing instruments in September,• were also 'featured midway in • Saturday's prograM. The accomplishments of this group of young. people, in such a short time, were heartily applauded. Doing solo work in the senior band, program were Tom Hender- son on trombone and Jill Murray on clarinet. Mrs. Tom Pritchard was accompanist throughout the even- ing and played as the crowd gathered. Band numbers included: The Show Boy, The Entertainer, Living Pictures, Coronation Hymn; Petrol- ogy, Amazing Grace, The Old Home Down on the Farm, 'Aquar- ius, Phantom Trumpets, I'd Like To Teach The World To Sing, Hooten- any, Rising Sun Rock, Hogan's Heroes, Spring Song, Beer Barrel Polka, Clarinet Escapades, Edel- weiss, Battle Hymn and -the Junior. Band numbers introduced by Dale LOUgheed, band president. Band. President Dale Lougheed, assisted by Murray Keith, present- ed Gordon Cayley with small maple trees for planting at his 'home and a wallet,' These were gifts, from the band members.
