Are Recognized
A group of women have been
acknowledged for achievement at
Ripley District Night School and
have received their certificates
through the mail.
They are the advance China

Mrs. Dorothy Homes of Rexdale.
Those in the ' class were, Mrs.
Archetta Brocklebank, Mrs. Annie
Holm of Walkerton; Mrs. Mary
Mathers, VVingham; Miss Marg
Machan, Mrs. 'Althea Devitt,
Kincardine; Mrs. Eunice Cunning-
ham, Mrs. Rhoda MacKenzie,
Lucknow, and Mrs. Pearl MacKay,
Ripley. •
This class has taken three
courses in china painting from Mrs.
Holmes and feel honoured and
grateful to have had such a talented
teacher. •
Mrs. Holmes is well known in
Canada and USA for her painting of
china and lamps. .
China painting, which is fast
coming back from being a lost art,
is fascinating . and rewarding to
thoSe who wish to persue it. Some
of this class attended a seminar 'in
Toronto in March and will attend
another it June. This would not be
possible if it wasn't for the hard
work and encouragement of Mrs.
Holmes.

The Pickled Few
The horse and mule live 30 years,
And know nothing of wine and
beers,
The goat and sheep at 20 die,
And never taste of Scotch and rye;
The cow drinks water by the ton,
And at 18 is mostly done;
The dog at 15 cashes in,
Without the aid of rum or gin;
The cat in milk and water soaks,
And then in 12 years, usually
eroaks;
The modest sober, bone-dry hen,
Lays eggs for nogs, then dies at 10;
All animals are strictly dry, •
They sinless live and swiftly die;
But sinful, ginful, rum-soaked
men,
Survive, for three score years and
ten;
And some of us, the mighty few,
Stay pickled 'til we're ninety-two.
