Eby, who-has beett with_the- choir-since its very early days. She is very well known 'in south-west Ontario as 'a very capable and a delightful aecompanyist. The choir has always had a policy of presenting a variety of different musical styles in, its concerts, interspersed with some solo rendi- tions, and it is felt -that this is one of the chief factors contributing to its unbroken success over a twenty- five year period. She was the former Ida Elizabeth Conley, daughter of James Conley and Ann Jane Lochart and was born in Kinloss Township on August 13, 1886. On March 6, 1907 she married Frederick Johnston *of Kinloss Township. They resided in Holyrood -until moving to Listowel in 1928. " ,Mrs. Johnston is survived by three sons and two daughters, Cecil of Woodstock, Orland of Clinton, Lionel of Gorrie, Mrs. Elwood (Laverne) Matthews of_ Listowel, Mrs. Oliver (Lida) John- stone of Stratfo 'two sisters Mrs. Mark (Mary) Johnstonh of Lucknow and Mrs. Annie Wall of Teeswater; eleven grandchildren and fourteen great granchildren. She was predeceased 'by her husband, two sons, two daughters' and one brother. Mrs. Johnston was a member of Knox Presbyterian Church, Listdw- el. The funeral service was held on Sunday, April 27 at the Robert . Trench Funeral Home, Listowel. Rev. Wesley Ball of Gorrie United Church was minister. Burial was at Greenhill Cemet- ery, Lucknow on Monday, April 28th. r? Dominion Life Choir To lucknow, Huron Co. Board Of Education Present Budget, Up 17.9% From Previous Year The Busy Buddies, a local young women's group, will sponsor a visit to' Lucknow of the Dominion Life Choir on Tuesday, May 13th. The Dominion Life Choir was sponsored in 1948 as a staff recreational' activity 'by the Domin- ion Life Assuranee Company: It qui0jy, developed into a travelling group which was and-has ever since' remained devoted to servingworth- while charitable organizations. Concerts aye presented free of charge, and ticked, 'posters and programs are also provided free. Huron County Board of Education has approved a budget totalling $15,783,772. The new budget is an increase of $2,396,233 or 17.9 per cent over the previous years expenditures. The budget presented to the board by budget committee chair- man Marion Zinn represents a mill rate increase of 5.95 bringing the total mill rate assessment to 47.08. In her presentation to board members Mrs. Zinn stated that the bUdget was a realistic appraisal of the board's needs for the year 1975: The budget total is comprised, of $7,814,356 in elementary school expenditures and $7,969,416 in secondary school expenditures. Provincial grants totalling $11,529,314 make up 73,05 per cent of the total while municipality and township assessment totalling $3,554,761 will make up 22.52 per cent of the total. The remaining 4.43 per cent or 699,697 will be made up from tuitions of noncounty resident students and miscellan- eous revenues. In the elementary panel of the budget $4,787,164 of the expend- itures are paid ' for labor and benefits and office supplies. Capital building expenditures tran- sportation, bus purchases, deben- ture costs and other non-operating costs will total $1,399,446. The remainder of the elementary school expenditures is comprised of books, supplies, custodial main- tenance costs and special transpor- tation expenses. In secondary school expenditures a total of $5,036,136 has been budgeted for salary and benefits and office supplies.. Extra ordinary expenditures which include capital building projects, transportation, debenture ,costs and non-operating expenses total $1,061,663. The remainder of the secondary School expenditures is comprised of library books and supplies, cafet- eria and custodial maintenance, contractual maintenance and spec- ial transportation expenses. The budget committee also made additional provisions of $22,000 in the budget for the institution of a preventative maintenance pro- /gram. The program would call for the hiring of three skilled trades- men to service school equipment in an effort to expand the . life expectancy of both buildings and equipment. 41 The assessment breakdown for the five towns and six villages the county is as follows: Clinton, $157',510; Exeter, $217,115; God erich, $530,085; Seaforth, $97,512; and Wingham, $187,762; Bayfield, $50,983; Blyth, $32,924; Brussels, $40,631; Hensall, $71,913; Zurich, $29,015: The assessment breakdown for the 16 townships is: Ashfield, $157,600; Colborne $1.07,006; God- erich , $153,206; Grey, $129, '282; Hay 5193,219; Howick, $167,650; Hullett, $116,594; McKillop, $106,145; Morris, $97,069; Stanley, $146,873; Stephen, $246,405; Tuck- ersmith, $171,597; Turnberry, $77,977; Usborne, $122,988; East Wawanosh, $79,445; and West Wawanosh, $66,255. The choir presents approximat- ely 12 to 15 concerts 'per year, within a range of 125 miles from Waterloo. It has also from time to time competed very successfully in several musical festivals' and has also been 'televised on occasion. It has presented over 300 Concerts and travelled over 25,000' miles since it started. The choir has had three direct- ors, each being very capable men in that field. The present director is Mr. Don Landry, Music 'Consult- ant to the Waterloo County School Board.
