• The Editor.
Dear Sir,
Through the medium of your
paper which I have greatly enjoyed
each summer for 25 years, may I
thank the business people and
many friends in Lucknow and
Amberley who have been so kind to
me as Camp Director of Girl Guide
Camp Keewaydin,
As I shall not be back this
summer, thanks are 'an, order for 'the
many kindnesses shown to me and
my late husband over the years.
When equipment broke down
beyond our capacity to fix, some-
one always responded to our
request for help, often with
inconvenience to the good samari-
tan.
When the camp was first
P largely through the
efforts of Mrs. A.' E. McKim,
Lucknow donated the largest per
capita amount-in 1949 during our
drive for funds.
Only a public acknowledgement
of the help and support given me
-personally and the camp in general
does justice to the warm hearts of
the residents of Lucknow and
Amberley. -
Camping is occupying my time
"down here" but I shall certainly
miss the friendly approach to
business which is what I have
experienced over the past 25• years.
Best wishes for all your future
'projects,
Sincerely,
Betty Connell.
(Mrs. Bruce Connell.)

Barry McDonagh, Lions Presid-
ent, introduced the guest speaker
for the evening, Floyd Stanley of
Huron Township, principal of
Ripley-Huron Central School.
Floyd showed slides and com-
mented on a recent trip to Russia
which /Was very interesting and
enlightening to• those present In
his opening remarks he stated it
was nice to be in Lucknow among
friends he grew up with in an area
which he considered as home.
H. D. "Bud" Thompson of the
Legion expressed thanks. to Floyd.
At this point in the evening,
Chairman Webster called the
presidents oft he three clubs to the
platform.
Ton Y' Johnstone, Kinsmen pres-
ident, asked that Bill Hunter, his
wife Mae and family Dale 21, Betty
Anne 17 and Judy 9 come forward
to the front of the 'hall.
Until this point, Bill Hunter had
no knowledge that 'he was to be
honoured by 'those in attendance.
Tony outlined some of the
contributions made by. Mr. Hunter
in suppOrt of recreation through the
years.
The remarks, in part, were as
follOws: "The residents of Luck-
now and area can take pride in the
many forms of service provided to
them through the co-operation and
agreements between the townships
and the Village of Lucknow.
However, tonight we are going to
look briefly at one specific area, the
recreation program.
For a good number of years, a
dedicated and hard working indiv-
idual has helped to construct and
oversee a varied recreation pro-
gram, which is second to none and
envied by many municipalities.
Hundreds of boys and girls,
teenagers and adults have benefit-
ed through recreation, whether it
be in the arena in the winter time,
• • • • • •
the ball diamond, swimming pool
or in other areas throughout the
summer.
Such a complex program, requir-
es a responsible and dedicated
individual to act as a leader.
Lucknow is indeed fortunate to
have Bill Hunter, who has spent
many hours in meetings, travel,
phone calls, • and solving problems
as, they arise. Besides being
Recreation Chairman, Bill still
finds time to coach and manage
hockey and ball teams. He takes a
great deal of pride in the teams in
Lucknow and through the past,
many ch•ampionship teams have
won various, titles in both' ball and
hockey. We also have several
hockey players presently playing in
major hockey leagues.
Bill was the key figure and
driving force in seeing the building
and completion of a new swimming
pool for the community.
We could spend a gdlod deal
more time • talking about his
accomplishments and work. -How-
ever, there is an understanding and
devoted wife who helps with the
phone calls and book work and yes,
even assists with the ball park.
Through your understanding and
assistance Mae, we have a team,
helping to make the recreation
program in this community second
to none. We look forward to your
leadership in the future and on
behalf of those, gathered here
tonight, the hundreds of boys and ,
girls, teenagers and adults who
could not be present, a sincere
thank you".
Legion. president Angus and
Lions president Barry presented
Bill with an occa clonal chair and
Mae with a bouquet of roses in an
engraved rose bowl.
In accepting the honour, Bill said
that he had taken pleasure in the
community work and had been
blessed with a great deal of
co-operation at . many levels. He
expressed his appreciation for the
